Harrell is a poor rebounder and poor interior defender. Not a great shot blocker (but ok on weakside). *IF* the Rockets need a "big" to play minutes, they would be better off with Nanu. He at least can battle for rebounds and defensive position.
Harrell is too prone to mental lapses on both ends of the floor, which leads to a lot of miscommunication. I've seen on numerous occasions this season where Harden will get onto Harrell's case for not being in the right place, and it affects spacing. Right now is not the time to develop youth. This is the freaking conference semi-finals. You have to roll with players that trust each other, and know they won't be liabilities on the court.
And yet, during the regular season, Nene was imminently capable of protecting the basket and Harrell provided for an open lane and easy layups by our opponents. I've wanted to see Harrell in the losses because he's athletic enough to change the energy in a game almost by himself but we played last night with Anderson at backup 5 and I'm not eager to mess with success.
If your talking about pick and roll speed I guess, but (especially Pau) and LA are the slowest guys on the court IMO.
I still think our key to victory is running gasol and aldridge ragged. Even if the first dozen attempts doesn't succeed keep at them. I dont think either is in conditioning to make it out there.
Yeah, I think MDA doesn't trust Harrell to rotate properly yet. Hopefully the long-ball lineup works well enough that we don't have to sub in Harrell for extended minutes.
Because of all of the good reasons everybody has already mentioned, but I would just like to add that I know it has to be tough to never play but even with the blowout minutes he's had he looks checked out. Bad body language, terrible lethargic play, very little effort. He's got to be a pro if he's gonna stick in the league because he has many flaws and he's undersized.
We have to play someone though, right? I dont know how our team can keep up the fast pace offense with a 7 man rotation. Even if its just spot minutes, we will need Harrell or Dekker to play maybe 5 minutes a half.
I hope he isn't sitting because he doesn't shoot three pointers. When he did play toward the end of the season he was jacking corner three-pointers, obviously something the staff asked him to work on, or that he chose to improve so that he's more than a sideline cheerleader. Hell, he could give a bolt of energy during the game and run circles around their bigs (perhaps). I just don't know if D'Antoni sees that or cares for it.
I have a suspicion your request is about to be granted, a little. Unless some new version shows, which at this late date ? oh well...ole man river we really really luv ya ! Go Rockets ! etc
Personally, I'm a big fan of Trez - love the hustle, love the motor, love the intensity... The guy obviously has areas to improve on, but I think he could could be beneficial as the occasional spark plug... a 'change of pace running back' if you will... Obviously MDA doesn't like playing youngsters.. but with so many games being blowouts (one way or the other) there's plenty of opportunity to give the young 'uns some decent minutes without affecting outcomes... If not... good luck packaging and turning those 'assets' into upgrades this offseason when every other team can see that despite injuries, foul trouble and whatever else guys like Harrell cant even get on the floor for spot minutes... jus sayin...
Montrez is a huge liability. Just accept that dantoni doesnt trust him. It will be an 8 man rotation. (Only 7 really. Dekker will get 5-10) Bev,gordon, harden, ariza, capela Lou, anderson, and 5-10 min of dekker. Anderson and capela will never be on the court at the same time
I was also thinking this. I know Dmo got a lot of hate from some people. But I thought he was a good player.
That's silly. He got minutes all year. And our opponents feasted on uncontested layups when he did. If D'Antoni doesn't play Montrezl it has nothing to do with trust and everything to do with strategy. Spurs' big men would eat Montrezl alive.
I have to second this. They aren't too fast for him but he's only one guy and can't cover both. They just kept going to the guy that he wasn't on and rolling to the rim. If he guarded one, we couldn't get the defensive rebound. It was scary to watch for a moment there....
