I've noticed.......and it's a season long trend......when we out score the other team we win.

You do of course realize that scoring off of a make is generally much harder than scoring off of a miss. If we missed all those threes, that would affect other aspects of the game -- likely in the Spurs favor.

I agree with the rest of your argument. The effect of hitting 3s is not just scoring points by those shots. So heypartner's argument is not that convincing to me.

But you seem to believe that the 30% shooting was the result of the Spurs solving our offense, which was your premise in that thread you started. That's clearly not true. If it was just the Spurs solving our offense, the Rockets couldn't have shot that well last night. So you already should be eating crow.

I believe the truth is somewhere in the middle. The Rockets aren't as good as shooitng 44% 3s, but they aren't as bad (or the Spurs' defense aren't as good) to make them shoot lower than 33% every game. 3pt shooting is a streaky business. When they hit, they are very hard to beat. When they don't hit, they struggle in every aspect of the game.

    Good Trendentification.

Interested to see how Pop counters this one. You know he has something planned.

the spurs settled into the game just fine after nene got hurt. the real change was after halftime with ego in the starting lineup and ryno coming off the bench as a backup center.

Maybe. Truth is I am not 100% sure...no one is. So many variables going on here. I stated that more on how they took away the passing from our offense more than the hot percentage which was a lack of getting threes in the flow - they seemed more rushed in game 3.But last night I was paying attention to the spurs defensive plan and it seemed consistent with what they were doing in game three until they fell apart in the 3rd after the barrage of threes.

So maybe it's a confidence thing and nothing more.

My only thing is that if any team hits a ridiculous number of threes you are going to win.

But what will be interesting is to see if the Rockets can hang in there on the nights neither team is hitting them or is it all about variance.

The better pace lead to more rhythmic 3-pt attempts. So yeah I agree we were knocking down 3's tonight and that helped, but in games 2-3, the majority of the attempts didn't look fluid like they did in games 1,4.

This team is built to shoot threes

They have to shoot well. Period

They don't have the players to grind it out

I'm sure Sam is also being facetious about the Pop but hugging

D'Antoni has done a great job

Unheralded KEY stat of the night -

Rockets were able to solve San Antonio's uncontested shot defense mystery.

Game 3: 5 for 24 on “open” or “wide open” threes (with the closest defender over four feet away).

Game 4: 14-35 overall on open or wide open threes

    That's what I call coaching.

The Rockets were 6th in the entire league in points scored in the paint.

We are not a 1 trick pony who can only win shooting 3s.

If the Rockets shoot sub-33% at 3, they probably won't win. I am cautiously hopeful. If they stay hot for two of the last three games, they can go to the WCF. It's probably less than 50% chance for that to happen. But it is very possible.

The thing is, the Spurs offense is also not that dependable, especially now that they lost Parker. Ginobili is practically useless. Green and Mills are as streaky as the Rockets shooters. That Simmons dude will come down to earth. They only have Leonard and LMA they can rely on to score consistently.

    The Warriors are another story.

One thing too is how quickly they were shooting shots, not their game.
