best ever might be a stretch, but his sheer offensive production this season is right up there with some of the best of all time

I hate to say it, but I think that Steph Curry had a better offensive season last year...dude was literally unstoppable, there was nothing that a defense could do to slow him down during the regular season

When the FG% is below 45%, this kind of claims is nothing but baseless. The source is from SB nation, understandable.

Why did not this come out before they cast MVP votes? Media conspiracy.

There are different ways of measuring offense, but from a volume and efficiency standpoint it was certainly impressive.

    I call crap....

i'm not an 'advanced analytics' guy so someone please correct me if I am misinterpreting this...

29.1 ppg divided by 18.9 shots per game.... 1.539 points per fga...

1.54 points per shot... wow that's amazing... thing is that # counts points scored at the free throw line - without counting a shot taken...
.440 fg% w .347 from 3 point line does not = 1.53 points per POSSESSION. It's a falsely inflated number due to free throws...

The correct formula should be Total # of points divided by total number of possessions used to get those points...
or you back out points scored at the line before dividing by # of shots... you shouldnt count the points obtained by free throws without a corresponding offset for the possession...

Free throws are not free points... you get them - but you then give up possessions (ie you trade your possession for 2-3 free throws...)

For example... someone could get fouled and make 2 free throws and then miss a layup... using the method here, that equals 2 points for 1 shot... 2.0 points per fga.... but in reality you have utilized 2 possessions to walk away with 2 points...

I'm not trying to take anything away from Harden... I'm sure there are other stats that support a great season... but this stat is junk science...
