Hey everyone, Well, it looks like Malaki won't be your next City Councilman (at least this time around). The results are in, and we lost to the incumbent. He got 72% of the vote and we got 21%. The difference in the race was money. He had over $100,000. We had $8,000. That's a big difference. I'm sad that we lost, but I think we did a great job considering what we were going up against. I can't really think of anything else we could have done, because everything else (like sending out mail, having a better field team) revolves around money. I still think if we had enough money to get our message out, then we would have won. We could not afford to do one mailer, one advertisement, hire a consultant, etc. We were able to get 21% just from personal interaction, a few signs and word of mouth. 21% (or 7,332 votes) is not a bad showing for a first election, espeically when you are a broke 25 yr old running against a two-term incumbent. District C will be an open seat in two years, and at least I have a base and some name ID for that election. I think I can win in two years as long as I keep in touch with the people I met during this campaign (and there were a lot of them), keep going to the civic club meetings and raise more money. Even though I lost this time, the future looks bright. I will run again!! Thanks to everyone on the board who helped out.
I saw that last night man...bummer. You're extremely young still, you seem to have a bright future ahead. Good luck in your future political endeavors!
Congrats on your showing. Sounds like it was a positive experience for you. Good luck in the next one!
Ben Folds, Regrets I thought about the hours wasted watching TV, drinking beer I thought about the things I thought about until immobilized with fear and all the great ideas I had and how we just made fun of those who had the guts to try and fail and then I ended up in jail It's awesome you went out there and gave it a shot. Keep your head high, because so few dare to risk like that.
Running for political office takes a lotta courage and commitment. The numbers didn't work out this time, but you're still young. Good luck next time, Icehouse!
Icehouse....ya got my vote yesterday, as well as my parent's votes. Keep plugging away, and you will get there. You opened alot of people's eyes to the way Mark Goldberg does business, and you should be proud of that. Keep on keepin' on!!!!!!
Dang dude, saw your pic... I had no idea who you were, if I'd known you were a member I would have helped out. Keep us posted!
Hearing about the resources vs. your opponents resources that's pretty impressive. He outspent you by more than 10 times but obviously didn't get 10 times more votes. Keep up the good work, I hope your career in public service is just starting.
