Bev should take a literal **** on the center court Thunder design. We'll all chip in to pay the fine.

Now that we know Bev has been fined $25k, does anyone know what rule he broke?

After watching the video a few times, it appears that the guy spit on Beverley.

He did nothing wrong during the game, but after the game, he walked up to the fan, clearly to confront him. Doesn't matter why or what was said or whether it escalated or not, you just can't walk up to a fan. zero tolerance...to avoid any escalation.

that doesn't mean the fan won't have consequences, too. But, the rule is zero tolerance for players leaving the court in that situation.

Thats what I initially thought the first time I saw the video but I never see Bev wipe anything off. I mean, that would be my first reaction if someone spit on me. It would have made it very clear to the world that thats what that piece of shat did.

Beverley is use to chippy crowds etc. The ESPN article made it sound like he went straight to the Refs after the first incident.

Sounds like Bev was upset that the fan wasn't removed, and hopefully there's one person that will say what really happened.

So if he had signed an autograph or given a jersey, would that have been a fine? I'm just curious how's this rule is written.

It does look like that, very possible at least. Fwiw OKC fans aren't defending that guy, many are saying he's a known douchebag

Don't be deliberately obtuse. It is a zero tolerance rule for confrontations. The definition of a confrontation doesn't have to be put in the rule.

The point is the rule is trying to say that there is no valid reason for confronting a fan off the court. It is the same as zero tolerance for players punching on the court or for players leaving the bench during a fight. Let's not try to say it is vague or the definition of confrontation must be spelled out. It doesn't. This way, the players just know that they will get fined for any reason of confronting a fan.

IF the dude spit on pat, how do you fine pat for doing anything? Honestly if a man spits on you then you aren't responsible for anything you do after that #street$hit

It appears the "fan" said F-U repeatedly in Bev's face while on the ground and waved a "clapper" in his face (according to an interview with Bev).

Here's Patrick Beverley's opening statement to the media on the $25,000 fine:

"If the NBA won't or help protect players in situations with fans, I'm okay with the hazing, I'm okay with the boos, I'm okay with the other fans rooting for their team but I'm not okay with the blatant disrespect. When I'm on the ground, after a foul, and a fan yelling after me, 'FU Patrick Beverley FU Patrick Beverley, FU Patrick Beverley', waving a clapper in my face, I'm not comfortable with that. So if the NBA won't protect the players in that manner, I feel the need as a man, as a grown man who has children, who has morals, stand up for the right thing. I have to protect myself and I felt like I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. I felt like I addressed him and (said), 'At the end of the day this is a basketball game this is a game, I'm a grown man, your a grown man, let's keep it professional.' Just like that. There's no need for plant disrespect, and that's all."
