Minnesota wins against Miami, can we make up 4 games with 18 to play?

I hope so, but I think the Rockets dug themselves too deep a hole and lost a LOT of games they should have won.

On the bright side, the team is WAY better then last year and will only improve.

Maybe this taste and getting so close will make them take the Clippers and Golden States of the NBA more seriously next year.

Games that give you a bad taste in your mouth.

    2 Clippers Games
    1 Nugget Game
    1 Dallas Game
    1 76er Game
1 Suns Game (worst tasting one) [IMG]

Actually, it's 4. 3 games puts us in a tie with Minnesota. No matter what, we lose the tie-breaker. Thus, we have to actually end up one game better than them...

    Rockeem,

We lose the tie breaker to both Minnesota and Phoenix, it not enough to tie them, we have to be ahead of them, so 4 games is the correct answer.

Don't believe me read it here, and dont attempt to call me ignorant again.

The Rockets can overtake both the Suns and the T-Pups. They have both have schedules that are much harder than ours, not only in the quality of teams that they play, but the order in which they play them.

If the Rockets could beat the Nets/Pacers/SPURS, and the Suns/wolves were to lose three straight, they would then be chasing the Rockets. If the Rockets can make up the four games quickly, and force the other teams to chase THEM, I think they could make it. If the Rockets are forced to chase the other teams for the rest of the season, then I don't see it. If the playoffs come down to the last game of the season, I think the Rockets will miss them. If they can overtake quickly, like within March, they would be in a much better spot.

We don't have to. Its the Suns we still need to be looking at. They have bt far the harder schedule with 14 out of their 18 games left against teams over .500 and don't we also have one more game with Phoenix left. Personally I still think we are closer to overtaking Phoenix than Minnesota.

Nothing has changed - NOTHING! Repeat after me NOTHING. Everything is going according to schedule - a scedule that puts Rockets in a #8 as they lose tiebreakers. (I still think they can claim 7th,as I think my prediction is too optimistic for all teams, more so for the other teams than Rockets. (I have 6-8 for 49 wins, and 9th for 48 wins - dont think atleast 7-9 will get as many wins, so I'll stick with my original prediction 48-34 for 7th seed.)

And again - Nothing, absolutly NOTHING has changed!!!

    Heath2000, 13 out of 18 wins?

Is that a bit toooooo optimistic?

I only see 8 games that the Rocks are supposed to win, and the rest will be tough. I see us winning 11 more. Is 46 wins enough?

Man one game and people just flip out and panic! One loss, well our playoff chances are over! Trade Mobley! Rudy is doing a bad job! We can't make up 4 games in like 18 or 19 games, never mind th fact Minnesota is only winning something liek 1 game a week, and still have a big stretch against big time teams. Why we just give up on the season! What fun is that? Man I couldn't enjoy basketball if I just gave up on the teams playoff chances after ONE loss!

No one is giving up that I am aware of, I do think this team can improve, maybe that is the point everyone is trying to make.

4 games in 18 is a lot to make up whether we like to admit it or not. Too many unknowns, things like.

If a team already has its playoff position locked up, does it play its regulars against Minnesota late in the season? Probably not.

What about injury? This can work for or against us..

But to not admit that 4 games is A LOT to make up is just plain silly.

How does that sand taste, with your head buried in there?

It's all Riley's fault. Only he would bench Mason when we need Mason to play.

....now the evil side. Making the playoffs loses our draft pick (and a fairly good one too) to the Furballs, err Grizzlies. The playoffs, for the West will be especially tough for a young team.

But the argument is momentum for next season? How bout a tie (3 games) that causes us to miss the playoffs via tiebreaker (sorta like Orlando last year), but gives us the hope to know next year, we won't lose those 2 freaking games to the Clips. It sure didn't hurt Orlando's chances in free agency.

I'm siding with DaDakota on this one. We have to play EXTREMELY well (like 14 out of our last 18) and hope Phoenix and Minnesota don't play much better than .500 basketball. Barring an injury to KG, or Kidd, I don't see those 2 losing their leads.

As for the teams that already made the playoffs, until it gets down to the last 3 games, they're still fighting for positioning, and home court.

Seems possible, Considering we have won 13 of our last 18(including a couple of games that were close)

If you were counting on the Rockets winning the game at Phoenix in your projections, you were being overly optimistic. If you were counting on Minnesota to lose at home to Miami, you were also being overly optimistic. I'm with those that say nothing's changed.

After tomorrow night, we'll be "3" back since we're going to kick the Pacers' ass tonight and the T-Pups are going to lose to the Spurs tomorrow night.
