Always nice to get some good news to start your morning.

Not sure if a bed sheet would have been enough to go around that neck.

Also this protects the civil liberties of his fiance and daughter, not to mention saves taxpayers thousands of dollars

So apparently this also shields his estate from civil litigation, which gives him a hell of an incentive to kill himself so that he can protect his fiancee and daughter. The timing makes sense too if he felt that he had no chance at appeals. Kill himself before it even starts.

Good, I can't think of a better way this whole thing could have ended.

Suicide is a cowards way out. This only confirms it for me.

Do you think he was familiar enough with the law to actually be motivated by it?

Him personally? Almost certainly not, but someone could have informed him of that loophole and that's where I'd put my money.

No way. I imagine his lawyer explicitly presented this as an option or at least hinted at it. Makes sense with how the lawyer's crying foul, probably trying to distract from this possibility?

I can. Him rotting in jail and his money taken from him. Now the conviction is vacated and his money will go to his family with none going to the victims.

Sounds like somebody should have made better choices in friends.
