Granted, I've never listened to him much because he isn't on during my commute, but it seems like white conservative talk show host is a bit of a fungible commodity. His audience would likely listen to whoever gets his slot. Maybe he has a core that consider him destination listening, but to me he seems like he is as watched and listened to as much as he is right now due to the platforms he is on.

If I'm wrong, he'll just move to podcasts and youtube and be incredibly successful there.

I don't know about the dying medium comment though. Radio and TV are and will continue to be huge. Newspapers are the dying medium.

old people love bill o'reilly and they dont watch youtube or listen to podcasts. early evening cable tv or talk radio are the only places where he can find his audience.

and talk about dying, it's bill oreillys geriatric viewers who are dying off...bigly.

the pathetic thing is that these sexual harassment claims and pay-offs are over 10 years old and it's only now as he is closing in on retirement that they are used to take him down. where was the outrage 10 years ago?

if i can get conspiratorial for a second, it's possible that rupert murdochs sons pushed this story in order to get loofah-boy out of the way. it's pretty well known that they are not fans of his.

I'm pretty old, and I can't stand Bill O'Reilly. I also watch YouTube and listen to podcasts. I guess I'm a freak. A super freak. Super freaky.

Personally, I don't find O'Reilly's claim that these settlements were made to put the issues to rest when he hadn't done anything wrong to be non-believable. The settlements are far too large for that. Given that, and the sponsors all leaving, I don't see that Fox really has a choice but to move on. FWIW, when Megyn Kelly, the rising star at Fox, left, the show's replacement had even better ratings. I would imagine that would play into the decision, as it indicates there potentially isn't that much of a downside to moving on. The difference being the when Kelly left, Fox still had O'Reilly...if O'Reilly is let go, who is really the 'signature' show lead for Fox? I don't think Tucker Carlson has the stature yet....does that leave Hannity?

Bill is a legend and a god to folks like my racist uncle and grandfather so I'm sure like Rush he's going to rebound from this with a deal with a further Right media outlet or radio show since folks like them will still listen in regardless.

    FoxNews isn't going anywhere
    Bill O'Reilly isn't going anywhere
Our racist uncles aren't going anywhere
This isn't a turning point in Trumps America by any stretch

The world is still a dark and ugly place where the Bill O'Reilly's of the world just go further and further to the right with a more dedicated following. FoxNews will just change the color of the drapes, but the house is still moldy and laced with toxic led paint.

He's too old and sometimes seems way too out of touch. Fox should replace him with Carlson.

He is being let go because no one watches him and TV news, and he is a waste of pay. His contract was probably keeping him around but this gave the network the greenlight they needed to cut him. Good Bye.

However he gave all of those old out of touch people we all know the talking points they needed to stake their foot in the ground with their worldviews at the bar, at work, with family at gatherings, etc.

Bill was crucial in shaping that worldview with those viewers on a nightly basis. I'm just wondering if those folks will decide to tune out at 8PM and watch TheVoice or whatever, or will they continue to let the newer guys like Carlson give them the ammo they needed to carry the right wing torch?

And my understanding is that they did just announce they are moving Carlson to that timeslot & also some show with a panel of 5 or whatever. Hannity is staying at the later time slot I guess.

My bet is him going to radio or satellite and pry the mantle from rush's cold fat fingers

More time for him to write twisted revisionist novels

I could see Breitbart having him carry the torch to a new streaming line of shows online or something. Kind of like that Tomi angry blonde girl had. Whatever he does, I'm sure it will move even further to the Right and more extreme.

It's an old video, but it really shows what is going on just under the surface... kind of like Dan Marino's meltdown.

That wasn't a freak out, just a bad take. Pretty much any news reader, and I imagine a lot of ex-athletes, get that hot every once in a while. O' Reiily's was more because he was thinking like a producer at the same time and pissed off about the copy.
