in Crunch time, GIVE IT TO MOBLEY!!!!

The guy simply thrives in clutch situations. When the pressure is on, his game improves 20 fold.

Most of the people on this BBS dont think Mobley should get the ball at the end of the game, I think you should all reconsider.

And for those of you who deplore his last minute shots that don't go in... write those off to youth and inexperience like we all do for Stevie's mistakes.

I know The Cat will back me up.

The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

Give the ball to Stevie... Cat is way too shaky to give the ball to in must-score situations...

Francis single handedly led the Rockets to three straight wins, one with a game winning 3. One with clutch free throws, and one where he simply dominated every aspect. He was torching Kidd all night long, but didn't get one shot in the entire fourth quarter. What a surprise, the Rockets lost.

As much as I like Cat, I feel better when Steve has the ball in crunch time. Mobes can be streaky at times, but when he's hot it's hard to stop him. Francis should have been the go to guy in the 4th...

This was the example of why you give the ball to Mobley. He single handedly won the game for Houston... officials just took it away. When the game was tied at 78 Cuttino just took over. It was obvious he wasn't his old self, but when it was money time he was the man out there on the floor. I'm not saying Steve can't win at the end of the game-- but Cuttino has done it his whole career. He deserves the ball. It was a setback tonight-- not a loss because imho the Rockets didn't lose and the Suns didn't win-- the officials won-- but 2.5 games is not far back from the playoffs at all. We are still very alive and we are a playoff team. Watch and see.

I like going to Cat in the 4th, but sooner or later the defense is going to stop him if we give it to him every time...this is when Steve needs to get a chance with it. I think we are very fortunate to have 2 go-to crunch time players in the 4th, so we should use both of them.

Yeah. You guys watched the game...

Every time Francis got the ball, they quintuple teamed him. There was nothing for him to do. Mobley was making huge shots, scored like 13 in a row, then Rudy goes to his stars. Walt Williams and Moochie Norris.

Yeah, Cat is way to shaky. Whatever. At least hes man enough to take the last shot unlike someone else i know.

Be careful who you talk about, because Mario Elie is on that team. He did help us win a championship you know.

Mobley has been Rudy's golden boy ever since his rookie year, so I hope these clutch situations will be something that help him develop into the crunch time player that we need.

I would much rather see Stevie running the offense in the fourth quarter, though. Yes, he was being swarmed, but when that happens, a point guard (one as good as Stevie, anyway) should be able to find the open man. And if he is being swarmed by everybody, then an easy dunk or free throws will be the reward.

Besides, the last shot Cat made (the free throws, anyway) was one on which he almost lost the ball after a defender came over to double while the ball was coming into him. HE was the one being doubled, which means someone else was open.

If Jordan could pass to somebody else who's wide open in the final minutes of a game, Cat should definitely learn to do the same.

And he also put us in the finals with his kiss-of-death shot in the same arena we played tonight. The only time I recall him killing the Rockets is when he hit the big 3 a couple of years ago in SA. In my mind he really didn't leave the Rockets, because we really didn't express much interest in re-signing him that year. The Rockets more or less gave him away.

You're right. The Rockets should have resigned him. He is the reason the Spurs won the title in 99. I would love to have his leadership and clutch play right now.

My gosh... do you have the same tunnel vision as Mobley does or what? Your defense of Mobley always has been that players do not win or lose games -- TEAMS do.

Yet here you are claiming that Cuttino won this game by himself. Lets overlook Francis' big third quarter and Mo's contributions... Mobley won this game that according to the scoreboard we lost.

Mobley can't lose games mind you... teams do. He can win them however. Single-handedly no less.

Lets also forget all those misses by Cuttino down the stretch.

Hey, I have no problems with Cuttino in this game as I was very, very impressed by him in the fourth -- the chat room will vouch for that -- and the misses down the stretch didn't even bother me because he did his part....

But the bottom line is Steve Francis is the leader of this team. The ball should be in his hands -- period.

Phoenix had no problem understanding that, in crunch time, you put the ball in the hands of your star point guard and let him run the show.

Or did I miss something and Tom Gugliotta won the game by wasting 20 seconds backing in on an isolation play?

OK, I did overstate by saying that he won the game. But he kept them in it, and was a clutch performer. Steve may be the leader of this team-- imho, he's one of two. But that still doesn't qualify him to have the ball in his hands down the stretch. Mobley has done it his whole career-- he has always been a money player. He did it tonight too for about 11 straight points if I remember correctly. Phoenix had the ball in Kidd's hands not because he was an All-star PG, not because he was the team leader, but because he has an excellent track record of being productive in the final minutes when the ball is in his hands. Whether you want to admit it or not, at this stage in Steve and Cat's careers, Cat is more advanced in that category. And the way he was playing tonight, I don't think Rudy was in any position to take it away from him.

Clutch - you're right on the money.

Why is it that Rudy ran all of those plays for Mobley even though one can argue that Stevie "single-handedly" won three games for us in the past week? He was stellar and very clutch in the fourth quarters of the past few games, right?

Cat definitely deserves props for scoring 11 straight (that's what it was, right?) in the fourth, but no one, not even Jordan, can fire off 20 straight without having multiple defenders run at him... so Cat also needs to learn to get others involved. When you're the hot hand who's getting quadruple-teamed, it's time to stack up on the assists, baby.

I disagree that the ball should be in Francis hand at the end of the game. It should be in the hands of the BEST AVAILABLE OPTION! Aside from Michael Jordan, every team had more then one late game option. Magic and Kareem. Dr J and Moses Malone. Isiah and Dumars, Bird and McHale, Kobe and Shaq, Duncan and Robinson, and so forth. If you want to give the ball solely to Francis watched the Ls pile up when he's tripled team. The reason Cat gets the late game shots isn't because he's Rudy's "boy", or he is a ball hog, or that he's trying to pad his stats. The reason that Mobley get the ball is that everybody knows that Francis is the first option. Why do you think Francis disappears late in games like he did tonight? Not a lack of heart or talent, the guy is getting smothered by defenses. Suddenly Mobley gets hot and HE gets the attention! I don't consider Francis the leader, he's to young for that. He is the major star of the team, meaning he gets the most touches and opportunity. But people keep saying he is the leader, but the guy is like 23 years old. If you want a 23 year old to be the leader then this team is in serious trouble. It is up to Francis AND Mobley to be leaders of this team, they are the 1st and 2nd option respectively and they have to take the pressure off of each other.
