I'm willing to give Russ MVP based on his half unbuttoned KISS jersey in post game. So sorry. Nice try.
I'm surprised Donovan didn't leave Westbrook to chase his triple double of points rebounds and turnovers
MVP voting is over, no need for Russell to rebound ft's anymore or get meaningless garbage time assists If OKC gets swept out of the playoffs, I think people will look back at this MVP race. You now have open the door that having good teammates and a better team should not count towards being the MVP.
the league has to send mauer and/or brothers for game 2 now......the disparity b/t these teams is so wide they risk mvp westie getting swept, with egg then dripping off all they crooked faces
Hakeem, Shaq, Kobe, Dirk, etc only won a single MVP award in their entire careers. Steve Trash and Stephanie Curry have won two of them. There is no media conspiracy to that except for the fact that the MVP award is garbage and doesn't really mean all that much at the end of the day. The greatest players win their awards in the postseason, and history will always recognize them for doing so.
Man you have to just love Nene. He's wise . Not the quickest but sometimes he has that explosiveness and basketball touch . I know he will be making some big plays this playoffs
It has been a historic season. Both players deserve it for one reason or the other. Averaging a triple double is outstanding and deserves praise. But Harden is my MVP due to efficiency and team standing also his numbers aren't that far from Westbrook. But like what I said earlier both guys deserves it.
As I have always said, the MVP is not a basketball award, it's a media award for best story of the season. It should be the MMVP, Media's Most Valuable Player because that literally is what it is. I mean, literally. So by that metric, Westbrook deserves the MMVP - let's face it, he has a better story than boring old Harden's 3rd seed and changing position and doing what no one said he could do. Or what MDA could do. Or what the Rockets could do with the personal they have.
Feels like I haven't seen Harden relentlessly attack the basket like that since his very early days here.
What drives me crazy is Westbrook biggest MVP claim besides the triple double avg is "his teammates suck" When did having bad teammates become major criteria for winning MVP? Literally one of the dumbest things The media has ever said to prop up a player. How about Russ actually making his teammates better? Gibson and McDermott come over to okc it was deemed a good trade and what happens? Gibsons game suffers and McDermott can't even get any playing time even though he's one of their only three point shooters. I mean it's one thing to have guys that just can't buy a bucket but you should atleast be able to give them good looks. Everyone on that team has regressed, they all don't even know what to do or we're to go when on the court with Russ. Okc runs zero offensive sets to get anyone easy looks. Yet somehow that is positive for Westbrooks greatness? Seems so backwards. Everyone talks about how great Westbrook is and that he's one of the best players in the NBA blah blah the best MVP candidate. Westbrook is garbage and I don't say that because of yesterday's game. I say that because of the way he plays. It's been proven throughout the history on the NBA that you can't win playing that style. Everyone that's followes the NBA and watches it knows this. Yet Westbrook is going to be the first player ever rewarded with the highest individual award the game has to offer. And he's not going to change. This is his 8th season the thunder are tapped out they have no money and no tradable assets. I would be shocked if Westbrook doesn't put up the same numbers next season and even break his triple double single season total. And I hope the media stays consistent and keep rewarding this bum with individual honors as all his peers that really deserve the MVP title win playoff series and championship trophies as he continues to exit the playoffs in the 1st round after 4-5 games.
It's quite simple, WB is NOT a PG. Hell, I would hesitate to even consider him a combo guard. He's a hyperathletic SG with a ton of endurance, a lot of passion, slightly above average playmaking abilities, average shooting ability, mediocre basketball IQ, and a chucker.
Anything double is just an arbitrary metric anyways made up because 1) it looks nice and 2) it's easy to understand. That's not to say WB's season wasn't impressive from an individual standpoint, just that a triple double in itself isn't all that people make it out to be. For example, I would much rather a player average 20/9/11 for example, as a rebound is just a guaranteed possession while an assist is at least a guaranteed 2pts. As another example, Hakeem's quadruple double wasn't impressive to me because he got a quadruple double, but that he had a ton of blocks and assists.
