Right on the money. Rudy-- thank you so much for having the guts to say it. With any two other officials in the league right now the Rockets are 37-27 and in the 8th spot. Oh well-- we will be soon enough anyway. PLAYOFFS HERE WE COME!

I guess it was the refs who made us get stuck at 70 for too long? I guess it was the refs who forced Walt Williams to guard Marion...

While I like to see Rudy show some fire for once, the refs aren't to blame...

We had a 16 point lead that we should have held on to...

And we would've held onto that 16 point lead easy if three things happen:

    1. That ridiculous charging call on Steve in which Robinson was clearly moving under the basket. Steve made the shot, and would've gone to the line where he was automatic. That would've given the Rockets 3 points.

    2. That ridiculous play where Mooch was mobbed by Robinson and Rogers with no call on a shot. Mooch probably would have made his free throws, and Rudy wouldn't have been called for a T, so that probably gives the Rockets 3 points.

After this sequence it was a 2 point game. If it is officiated fairly, its an 8 point game, and I have my doubts on if the Suns would've come close again.

And of course the final play was a joke. We forced the miss, got the rebound, and Walt was fouled. But no call. Still, that's not the only thing they miss. The ball CLEARLY GOES OFF DELK!!!! We should've had the last shot! It wasn't even debatable! These are just 3 primary examples of the bs that occurred all night long... Rudy is dead on here. They did get us again. If I'm the NBA I really might look into this a little bit-- perhaps I'm overreacting but the calls in this game and the Dallas game have been by far the worst I have seen in years. A complete joke.

You tell 'em Rudy! Some of these guys have been refereeing to long and let it go to their heads. It's pathetic, coaches and players have to answer to the media and the league but not the officials.

The Rockets don't lose this game if they don't do their usual roller coaster impersonation of a defensive team. Offense - okay, you run hot or cold. Defense, though, should be a constant.

Also, the ball probably didn't go off Tony Delk if no Rocket argued that call. Instead, Walt just kept on grabbing his arm to signal he was fouled.

While I do agree that the refs do f*** up majorly sometimes, they are human. There's a really good article on the development of the NBA's "robo-ref" in the New York Times magazine from a few weeks ago. It talks about how the league over the past 15 years or so has tried to eliminate the biased ref by *using a scoring system* and making them watch their own game film for a few hours after the game so that they see where they are screwing up.

Isn't there some unwritten rule that says referees in any sport will not let a foul decide a game in the closing seconds unless it's blatantly obvious?

The Francis and Moochie calls were really awful and there were a couple others, but that Walt call was unreal.

Either he was fouled or it was off Delk. Well, actually BOTH!!! In that situation, given the time left and the situation, that goes out of bounds to the Rockets. It was an obvious grab of Walt, though I'll even admit it was tough to see Delk hit the ball on regular speed replays.

But, anyone could've seen the foul, so, to keep from deciding the game at the line, the smart play would be out of bounds to Houston. But, NOOOOOOOO!!!!

    That call killed me.

I am not normally one to pin a loss of referees and I probably wouldn't even go that far here, but their calling of this game was pathetic. It was beyond bad.

Rudy's statements are weak! Blaming the ref's is about as lame as it gets when your team blows 4th quarter leads against good Western Confrence opponents as often as the Rockets do. Stop whining and actually think about matchups and substitution patterns instead relying on your vaunted "instinct," Rudy. Your instincts have been successful mostly because of Hakeem Olajuwon being god for five, or six years. The next time your "instincts" tell you to run three straight Moochie Norris isolation plays when the Rockets have gone seven minutes without a basket, have a scotch and coke and run another play, preferably one that involves ball movement and cutting to the basket.

-Elvis, who thinks Walt Whitman has about as much game as Walt Williams does these days

    Hey Rockets104! [IMG]

Well anyways, this game can be blamed on Rudy as much as the refs. Who is schooling the hell out of Mobley in the last few minutes? SHAWN MARION! Who should have been guarding Marion? SHANDON ANDERSON! But nooooooooo! That would be too damn practical for Rudy. Instead its Moochie playing the clutch minutes. I love Rudy T, but sometimes his thought process is just plain F**KED UP!

And let me just say again that I absolutely love Rudy T. In no way am I ever going to suggest getting rid of him. I did last year for a while. But after watching his overall job with the Rockets that last year and a half...well its just been BAD ASS! But then sometimes Rudy gets a little Peter Vescey in him or something. How the hell can he not bring in Shandon?!?!?!

Refs don't win and lose the games, it is up to the players to adjust to how the game is being called.

It is time to step up and be a man about the losses. We just don't have IT yet.

This team is starting to remind me of the Kings a few years ago, when they just barely got into the playoffs as 8 seeds, and were 3 and out.

It must have been frustrating then to watch your team's point guard throwing passes out of bounds behind his back, and jacking up ill-advised shots... but look at where they are now.

All we need is time to develop people... just a little time, and we will be contenders.

    Here is an intersting question...

Of all the people who either said that the refs lost the game for us, or just generally screwed us over, how many were able to actually watch the game, and how many were just there in chat?

I find it seems that those who were watching the game feel that the refs screwed us over in this game, and those who could only read the results of the chat (like me), feel that the refs didn't beat us, we did (like me).

Honestly, when we drove to the basket 3 consecutive times, and either had no call or an offensive foul called on us, I was about to kill the television set. And when Rudy got that T, I thought perhaps the refs realized that they had just handed the Suns a 6 point handicap.

That last call, though ... Wiz was complaining about his arm getting grabbed, but it looked to me like his own teammate is the one who fouled him. I couldn't tell who the ball went off of, so from my perspective in Houston, it shoulda went to the Rockets. From the refs perspective down there in Phoenix, it went to the Suns.

Right when the game ended, I was yelling about how we lost the game 'cause it was 5 on 7, and we just couldn't beat those odds. And although the refs did play a pretty big part of that 4th quarter, particularly when there was only between 3-5 minutes left in the game, I think we still hafta own up to that loss. We missed some easy point blank shots, AND we stood around too much on defense.

Where was Francis in the end of the 4th quarter? He was so hot for a while, you'd think he woulda been more of a factor in the last 2 minutes? And Mobley was incredible in the end. Again, I was blaming the refs, though, because since Mobley was so hot, the Suns were double teaming him when he DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE BALL. Isn't that illegal defense? Hell, any time we'd fake a pass to Mobley down the stretch, there were 2 guys in the passing lane to make sure Mobley couldn't get the ball. They were in essence double or triple teaming him without the ball, and that is FREAKIN ILLEGAL DEFENSE.

Granted we shoulda made some shots and we were weak on a couple of defensive plays, but those refs were atrocious.

    Interesting perspective, RR.

I watched the game, and almost always argue that we should build-up enough of a lead to overcome poor officiating. But multiple HORRIBLE calls down the stretch in a clutch game against a good team can lead to a loss...that is exactly what happened here. It is simple, poor calls cost us this game. Did we play perfectly, no. But we did play good enough to beat a tough Phoenix team.

Weakling, finger-pointers can blame it on Rudy. I am so sick of that crap - why the hell aren't ya'll coaching an NBA team if you are so much better than Rudy?. You Rudy-bashers are silent as hell while we are winning, and then after the first loss you come out of the closet. Did he miss a match-up? How many d@mn recent games have we kicked other team's asses with match-ups engineeered by RT? Go ahead and blame him for any and every mistake he makes, then blame each of our players for every missed shot, missed rebound, turnover, etc.

hey RR. I did watch the game last night and yes, the refs did have their heads up their a$$e$. However, I do believe it should never have gotten to that point. The Rockets had that game and they blew it...plain & simple.

Back to the refs though. I think Rudy's comments are right on the money. It makes him look like he's using th refs as a scape goat...but that is beside the point. The refs need to be held accountable for their calls. rudy will no doubt be fined over this just like anyone that dares to utter any bad thing about the refs, but enough is enough....the league definately need to look at this issue more closely.

Anyway, those bastards nearly cost me from watching the Rockets for the rest of the season. After their pathetic calls I started cussing and throwing anything within arms reach at the TV. Needless to say, my wife didn't like that too much.
