I think it was to give the home fans a look at the new uni's. Several teams with new uniforms have done that this year.

Because they were afraid that the Nuggets' metallic smurf road uniforms might mess up their shooting due to the light reflection...

yeah...they petitioned the league to let them wear their red jerseys for opening night and 2-3 other times during the season.

There was an article in the Chron a few weeks ago. Rox feel that fans like a team's road uniforms better so they got permission from the NBA to wear the road uniforms at home for like 4 games or something like that.

I thought it was a NBA thing, cause I think I remember other teams doing it too.

They said they were going to do that for 3 or 4 games this season.

To be honest, I'd like it if the home team got to wear their colors all the time, like the NFL. Make the other team wear the always more generic white uniforms.

Road jerseys generally outsell the home jerseys in the NBA by about 2 to 1, by the way. It's not just a Rockets thing -- most fans identify more with the road jersey.

These thoughts were discussed with the league as we were doing our uniform revision. We're fortunate to have a league that's open to feedback from the teams, and they agreed to let all teams play in the "road" colors for up to four home games.

We scheduled the following games as our nights for the red uniform: Opening Night (done), New Year's Eve (vs. the Sixers), Super Bowl Saturday (vs. New Jersey), and one of the two Lakers games (most likely the second one, in March).

We thought our own fans deserve to see the red uniforms live and in person at least once in a while. The league helped us out. Nothing much more to it than that.

    Tim
