Weird how all the scouts missed on this guy, he is an NBA player. And you don't play at Indiana unless you are a smart player - good to have more BBALL IQ on this team. DD
To be honest I think you only need a certain level of athletic ability to make it in the NBA, what's more important is the motor and mindset you have. Shane Battier is regarded as one of the best role players ever and no one would accuse that guy of being athletic. Sadly I think majority of NBA players coast on their physical gifts and that's why they drop out of the league once they get a bit older and realize they can't dunk the ball every play anymore. With Troy Williams the jury is indeed still out, but considering he started out undrafted instead of with a silver spoon in his mouth I think he isn't going to take his spot for granted and will make the most of his opportunity.
What's even weirder for me is Grizz had him and saw what he can do but for some reason didn't keep him lol. When the Grizz saw how he defended Draymond Green then they should've realized dude was a keeper. Oh well, sucks for them but great for the Rox.
Williams does seem to be a better option than Dekker. At the very least he brings the same intangibles while being a better athlete and having better basketball fundamentals.
Dekker seems to be pretty athletic. He's been on the receiving end of alley-oops and tip dunks himself. I think Williams is just more assertive, whereas Dekker is extremely inconsistent. Williams also has better handles, Dekker's are pretty poor; Ariza-level.
The sooner the Rox sign Troy to a multi year affordable deal, the better. He's got potential for good things in the future and the price can only go up on the open market. (Even for a restricted FA)
He's a 22 year old Corey Brewer basically. Slightly more athletic, slightly lower motor. Overall the same. But a 22 year old Brewer on a minimum contract can become something. I know as soon as his 3 stops falling - and it will, just like it did Dekker - I know a lot of people will be down on him and start magnifying his flaws. I think the kid has good potential though if he's committed to staying with the Rox meaning we can work on him in the summer. Troy can be a backup 3 and Dekker is the perfect backup 4. With Lou and Gordon in the backcourt and Nanu maybe emerging next season, our depth is excellent.
This dude has a bit of everything. Was impressed with his minimal ball handling the other day, can of course shoot the 3 ball, drive, slash and is a big time athlete
I WHOLE HEARTILY AGREE! But how did Morey miss on Isiah Taylor??? Dude can't guard and as a PG for the Rockets you have to be able to guard, to offset Harden's deficiencies. Beverly, Gordon and Williams all do a good job of guarding.....Taylor is too small
He does more than Brewer. He can create, penetrate and he can shot the 3, which I love. I'm still puzzled as to why Morey signed Isiah Taylor to a 3yr deal and not T. Will
Different players, but yeah, looks like it. Dekker's dribble is too high and clumsy....sort of like Ariza's. DD
