I believe in an old thread about this issue, or maybe it was about insurance, someone posted the profits by the same pharm companies in European countries. Despite the Socialized medicine in those countries, the Pharm. companies still made healthy profits.
The problem is that very statement, reasonable. It has nothing to do with patents. But what people don't realize when they rail against the "horrible" and "unfair" profits of drug companies is that when they use the police powers of government to get rid of them, they kill the golden goose. Except that "police powers" of government are the only reason they have the profits in the first place (patent protections).
