This is one nightmare that United Airline would like to sweep under the rug

United Airline Flight 3411 from Chicago to Louisville was overbooked; this is a video, http://www.courier-journal.com/stor...d-united-flight-chicago-louisville/100274374/, showing a passenger being forcibly removed from the plane before takeoff at O’Hare International Airport.

Passengers were told at the gate that the flight was overbooked and United, offering $400 and a hotel stay, was looking for one volunteer to take another flight to Louisville on the next day.

Passengers were allowed to board the flight, and once the flight was filled those on the plane were told that four people needed to give up their seats to stand-by. the offer was increased to $800, but no one volunteered.

then, a manager came aboard the plane and said a computer would select four people to be taken off the flight. One couple was selected first and left the airplane, before the man in the video was confronted.

Afterwards, the other passengers had to de-plane so that United can clean up the blood.

Now that was sickening. Really could have been handled better than that, United and Chicago Aviation Police.

Also - this is probably an unpopular opinion, but the doctor guy could have just gotten off the plane when he was chosen. Certainly would have saved a beating by the Chicago goon squad.

My most nightmarish experience with an airline is this one time that the fight I was on got overbooked and since no one volunteered to get off the plane and take a later flight they picked 4 random people. 3 of them just left like adults even though it sucked and they were pissed off about it, but one ******* had to literally be dragged off the plane. What an ordeal! I mean, I thought it was annoying when you had to listen to young children crying on planes but this was WAY worse.

Having the main hydraulic system fail. Flying out over the Pacific to dump fuel. Landing at LAX on the backup system after they foamed the runway and had a stream of emergency vehicles on hand. And then believing Continental when they said they would arrange an alternate flight (once they determined they would not get a new plane in to take us home). They were no help and we had to do everything on our own. Finally getting home and seeing flames shoot out the engine as we were landing.

    Two comments:

    1. It turns out that all four randomly selected were asian. Imagine the furor if they were black?
    2. I bet United wishes they upped the ante to 1600 now, eh?

Well...I can almost certainly guarantee a massive lawsuit. United is such a garbage airline. Hope they go out of business. And they dont even act remorseful for their actions..

Why is it that an airline can charge you as much as they want for a seat at the last minute - thousands of dollars - but they can take your seat away for $800 and if you don't like it they can bloody you and drag you off?

And why is it people like Bigotexxx have to always make every thread about how much black people suck even when it has nothing to do with black people.

I'm pretty sure they just picked based on fare class, MileagePlus status and check-in time.

That's the risk when you purchase a ticket with a basic fare class.

He should have complied with law enforcement/airline staff. If they tell you to get off a plane, you get off a plane. It is a battle you will never win.

Not only that, the flight was from Chicago to Louisville. He could've just demanded a credit of over $1k and a rental car and just gone.

Don't get me wrong, it was handled badly and difficult to watch. But it is clear that law enforcement was telling him to get off and he was not complying.

It's possible he wanted it to happen so that he could bring a lawsuit against them. The public is clearly on his side given how difficult the video was to watch.

Kinda messed up that no other passenger would volunteer to take the United credit and get off the plane seeing that this man clearly did not want to leave.

Also kinda messed up that he got the flight delayed by over 2 hours possibly screwing over other passengers.

I hope he sues the ever living **** out of the airline. You know what its time people stopped putting up with this ****. **** the cop and employees too. He should publicize their names and let them suffer the consequences.

It is messed up that they let him board the plane and then decided to have him get bumped off the flight BUT is law enforcement really at fault here? The airline called law enforcement to get him off the plane (the airline has the right to do this). Law enforcement asked him to get him off the plane and he kept refusing. They were talking to him, telling him he needed to get off the plane but he was not complying. I know it is horrible what happened BUT how else are they supposed to get him off the plane?

As a passenger, if the airline and/or law enforcement ask you to get off a plane, you need to get off the plane. It is a battle you will never win.

People need to win this battle.

Getting beat up publicly before his wife and passengers on a plane that he had paid and already checked in? No way. Sue them.

Not true, if you are ordered off of a flight, you have no right to remain on the flight. If they remain on the plane illegally, they can and should be removed forcibly by police. I'm sure it's almost never a problem because most people have enough dignity to simply get up and leave once they've been ordered to get off a flight.
