So I was looking at Harden's game log on Basketball Reference and went through every game to see what the Rockets record was for each assist total that James puts up. Here are the results.

    • 17 assists: 2-2
    • 16 assists: 1-0
    • 15 assists: 4-2
    • 14 assists: 4-0
    • 13 assists: 7-3
    • 12 assists: 4-7
    • 11 assists: 8-3
    • 10 assists: 11-1
    • 9 assists: 4-1
    • 8 assists: 6-3
    • 7 assists: 2-2
    • 6 assists: 0-1
    • 4 assists: 0-1
    • 0 assists: 1-0
So when Harden gets exactly 12 assists, the Rockets are only 4-7, but when he gets 9 or 10 assists they are 15-2.

Also weird that they are a .500 team when he gets 17 assists.

The Thunder are 10-16 when Westbrook doesn't get double-digit rebounds.

3-5 when Westbrook scores 46 points or more.

They're also 54-0 when the other team loses

That's because the opposing team isn't missing as much...not as many defensive rebounds available.
    • Thunder as a team are 1-16 when they get less than 30 defensive rebounds.
    • And in everyone of those games, the opponent shot 60% (TS%) or higher.
    • Less available rebounds.

Analytics in the hands of the wrong people is dangerous for society. :p

We win every game when Harden doesn't assist anything, so we need to find some way to prevent him from passing.

So 10 assists is the sweet spot (11-1). What about points and rebounds? Out of curiosity, what is the highest win probability stat line?

What have we learned from this, kids? Never EVER get 12 assists, Mr. Harden.

The Rockets are undefeated when Harden doesn't play at all.

    The Rockets are
    • 9-0 when Harden scores between 18-23 points
    • 20-3 when Harden gets 4 or 5 turnovers
    • 7-1 when Harden gets 2 or more blocks
    • 7-1 when Harden makes exactly 11 FTs
    • 16-2 when Harden makes 8 or 9 FGs
    • 26-0 when Harden's +/- is at +12 or higher
    • 15-4 when Harden makes exactly 4 3PTs

Interesting finding... yet it's probably due to the fact that Harden usually doesn't play more than 30 to 35 mins against competition that the Rockets are handily beating (i.e. Hornets, Sixers, etc.), hence less time to earn a very high assist total in the game. If you divide assists by minutes played and check those ratios, what would the numbers for wins & losses look like?

Rockets have never ever lost a game in the history of this franchise when they score more points than the opposition.
