Unless Troy Williams can actually be a rotation player, Dekker has to play out of necessity of lack of depth behind botb forward spots.
I don't think this mentality is good... especially since Dekker is a really good player in other aspects. I wanna bring up 2 players that faced a similar situation for us in 08-09. Kyle Lowry and Aaron brooks. DM basically forced the coaches hand by trading a vet PG. Both of those guys got a chance in the playoffs and they not only performed .. but they also carried over that confidence to next season. AB wasn't starting .. then they traded rafer and he got more min .. about 26 .. then came the playoffs and he broke out. 34 min a game and he was scoring 17 a game for us. Now Dekker isn't the shooter AB is, but AB isn't the defensive player that Dekker is. AB next season went on to have his best year. KL's minutes stayed the same. He performed about the same per minute as far as I can tell, but he didn't have a good shot. He effected the game in other ways. The same story goes for how he improved next season. These were young guys in their second season... and they hadn't performed on the big stage before, they were inconsistent game to game as all young guys are .. but they got that experience and it helped them grow and it helped the team. Now, part of the reason they played was due to lack of options... but that constraint was self inflicted. WE could have kept rafer and we could have gone out and acquired another vet. We took a gamble on our youth and it paid off. Maybe Dekker is those guys , maybe he's not. But IMO, he's not going to develop as well unless you give him a taste and find out what he's got. I don't wanna go into next playoffs and have dekker be a key contributor to our team and he doesn't have a shred of playoff xp. We can say all we want to about the rockets are a contender and they need to play their vets, but that 08-09 team was also a contender and perhaps a stronger one than this team if fully healthy. They played brooks, they played lowry, they played wafer, they played landry , and they played scola ( 2nd year) ... IF that team can give inexperienced guys a shot than so can this team. ESPECIALLY given our lack of physicality at the 3-4 spots. I say give both Dekker and Harrell a chance to inject energy and athleticism.
The kid has to improve his outside shooting if he wants to play on this team. Defensively, he's often completely lost and at best he's a tolerable sufferance. He has to have a bigger effect on the scoreboard to make up for these defensive deficiencies and lately he hasn't been able to do that very well. He should get some minutes in the playoffs, though. The experience will be good for him and I think given the confidence he can make some improvements over the offseason.
HELL NO. BREWER 2.0 should sit on bench, if he can't shoot threes consistently. Dekker should only be used when our players in foul trouble other than that i rather go with Harrell for the offensive plays.
Definitely think he needs to improve in shot making before he should see any significant playoff minutes, which will be something he needs to work on in the offseason. He also seems to lack confidence at times.
The only way we beat GS in a playoff series is if we play like we did 1st half against Thunder for 4 games.
I hope dekker has some clutchcity heart in him. I am hoping he thrives in the playoff grind when things get a little slower paced. Unless two other guys off the bench can show up... well we need Dekker to step up if we want to go anywhere. The window has passed for the "should we let him play in the playoffs". If we weren't going to do that then we needed to trade the guy. Now he has to be on that roster and man up.
So..... you're just going to roll the dice on being small everywhere but the 5 position? Some of you folks have no vision.
And Brewer 2.0? I'm sorry but you have sort of learning disorder to think a sophomore player is set to be like Brewer. Just completely stupid and weak-minded.
Dekker will never have a career like Brewer. Brewer >>> Dekker Dekker just needs to stop shooting the ball. Teams already know he's trash so they sag off him. They gotta find plays for him to score inside the paint.
LOL. Rube. Another rube who thinks a sophomore player will never grow. Christ.... Clutch Fans needs to enact a spelling bee.
not after his murder attempt on kanter should he exist! the staredown was completely unnecessary! THAT MAN HAS A FAMILY DEKKER! HOW DARE YOU!
