Watching the Lakers, when Shaq touches the ball and gets surrounded by defenders, the "big daddy" passes the ball to the shooter out there, making his opponents paid for the double-team.

When Rockets' Yao touches the ball and generally he attracts the double-team, the "little giant" passes the ball to the open shooter out there, but he's not collecting an assist. Why? The Rockets shooters suck in the sense of inconsistency shootings or trying to do too much (eg, over-dribbling) which result in turnover.

ROCKETS SHOOTERS JUST CAN'T SEEM TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DOUBLE TEAM. Since the pre-season started, with the exception of Yao who leads the league in accuracy on a consistency basis, the rest of the team's shooting just been ups and downs (actually, more downs than up).

when i posted that the lack of shooters is what hurt
Francis's assists numbers. . . i was just an idiot
    but now
When it hurts Yao's numbers. . . it is an issue

I can't help but think this team would be MUCH better with Pike in place of Mobley.

Yup. With Mobley off the bench for those times when Cato, MoTay and Moochie are in so we can almost completely switch up the style of play in the non-Yao minutes.

But that would be a streetball exhibition, I know; it's just that Mobley would bring some offensive leadership that the bench lacks severely right now and Piatkowski would bring the shooting that the inside-out-style starters really could use.

    The obligatory lineup thingies:

    (Starters)

    Ming
    Cato
    Jackson
    Piatkowski
    Francis

    (Bench Scenarios)

    Cato
    Taylor
    Nachbar
    Mobley
    Norris

    or

    Ming
    Taylor
    Piatkowski
    Mobley
    Francis

    Etc....

This thread = most idiotic thread of the day. So far...

Like Rocket River said, Steve can't get assists because he sucks but Yao can't get assists because everyone else sucks?

    Another Yao-only fan....

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking!

It would be a bold move, could JVG get away with it and still keep this team in his corner? I suppose winning is all it would really take.. and we would find out once and for all if Mobley really is a team player or not...

In other news, after a whole week of NBA action:

Rashard Lewis leads the NBA in scoring at 37.5 points per game. Ronald Murray is 9th at 23 ppg.

Carlos Arroyo is leading the NBA with 13 assists per game.

Elton Brand is averaging 8 blocks per game

11 players are on pace to obliterate Steve Kerr's all time single season 3 point % record of .524, including Qyntel Woods, shooting a blistering 100% from behind the arc

New Orleans, LA, and Seattle are all on pace for 82 win seasons

Seattle is averaging 116 points per game.

Oh, and for the record, the Bulls are the worst shooting team in the NBA at a .335 clip, just ahead of San Antonio, who's shooting .361 as a team. Hmm, I wonder how many Spurs fans are freaking out right now...

In the context of our new inside-out game, with Yao the focal point of the offense, his lack of assists, rather than Steve's, is more concerning.

After 1 game? I'm not concerned.

    Read A-Train's post.

That is a good point. On the other hand, Steve didn't shoot the ball well either. How can 6-16 get the job done?

    :D

Steve cant get many assists because he is such a POOR passer. Thats why he is realy a Shooting Guard trying to convince us that he is a Point Guard/Playmaker. To the experienced eye its obvious.

Yes we need PIKE asap b/c nobody else can shoot!!! we all know mobley is inconsistent, and francis as great as his vertical is and athleticism, turns the ball over way too much. He has problems focusing i think, he drives with soo much energy and runs outta gas and doesnt finish, just put the freakin ball in the hole! I was at the game vs memphis and rox could not put the ball in the hole, cato missed like 2 point blank dunks, francis and mooch cant finish any layups, and shooting was just horrible and boki did not contribute crap. did u see SF and mooch go on a 2 on 1 fast break, haha they cant even finish that! they look like last year's team that night all iso one on one plays, no yao posting up, havent they figured out they are a better offensive unit once yao is in the post? but then again no decent shooters to help. Hopefully they get their butt in gear or looks like another .500 season.

I know you wanted a chance to bash Francis some more, but that wasn't the point. The point of the post was to expose djunior for his hypocrosy. Do you to support the idea that when other players miss open shots from Francis it's Francis' fault, and that when they miss on a pass from Yao, it's the other players fault?
