The upcoming game with the Bulls gives us a chance to look back at the what these lottery teams and the others did on draft night and what think of their picks now. 1. Yao Ming (HOU) - Houston's newest love affair. No regrets about taking a chance on the next dominant center in the NBA. He is the Rockets future (and most of us feel the future is now). 2. Jay Williams (CHI) - A real tragedy. This rivals some of the most dubious #2 overall draft busts (Sam Bowie, Len Bias). 3. Mike Dunleavy (GS) - Pretty poor start but picked it up a little at the end last year. He looks physically overmatched, and I don't think he'll ever be a star in the league. 4. Drew Gooden (MEM) - The Logo seemed to draft a pretty solid player and then traded him for Mike Miller. He doesn't seem as soft as advertised coming out of Kansas. 5. Nikoloz Tskitishvili (DEN) - Foreign youngster #1 has yet to do anything. Will he ever? 6. DaJuan Wagner (CLE) - Pretty much as advertised. A undersized scoring PG. 7. Nene Hilario (DEN) - Foreign youngster #2 cost them McDyess. His defense and rebounding give a glimpse of his raw ability. still a ways to go though. 8. Chris Wilcox (LAC) - Probably drafted him assuming they would lose Brand. Now, he's pretty useless. 9. Amare Stoudemire (PHO) - A high schooler who kinda flew under the radar and then muscled his way to ROY. The Suns have to be thrilled that their project pick is already this good. 10. Caron Butler (MIA) - Really woulda liked to have seen the Rockets move up to snag him, but alas, he's gonna be a star for Miami. I'm gonna stop there because the rest of the lottery picks aren't really worth mentioning. What do ya'll think?
I know it's wrong to feel good about someone else's failure, but I can't help it in this case. I wonder how all those Bulls fans who were making fun of the Rockets for drafting Yao over J. Will feels now.
I think Nene will be a Malone style player. He can jump, shoot, rebound and block. Can you trade anyone for this guy? No Yao or Steve.
Dunleay just had 32 points and 11 rebounds yesterday. It's not impossible for him to develop into a star.
Its to bad about what happened to J-Will, he was going to be a star. He showed glimpses of that last season, hopefully he will one day return to the court. I sure hope so he is my all time favorite college player. He was going to be a great one... As for the rest of the draft, it appears to be a quality draft. Yao is hands down the best player of the draft. And Dunelavy, Amare, Caron and maybe a few others appear to be heading towards stardom.
last year, after viewing the nbadraft.net's report, I thought we should trade E.D. for LAC's #8 and pick up the Amare kid. I also hoped we could steal Q. Woods with our #15 and got Vincent Yarbrough in the 2nd round. dame, i should have sent C.D. a proposal so he'd hire me now.
Remember Caron Butler was supposed to be a lock at 3rd, and then for some mysterios reason (or war room gossip) dropped him down to the 10 spot. Miami had to be happy with that one. They weren't expecting anyone of his caliber at the 10 spot. I also remember the TV analysts saying we should trade Stevie so we could draft and play Jay Williams instead. And than Mobley said we should trade the #1 pick for Lamar Odom. I see no Dynasty with with either of those combinatons.
I don't think Bulls fans should feel too bad about Jay Williams. Sure, they could've gotten somebody else better, but he was the undisputed best player on the board at the point. Jay simply was not a good fit with the Bulls with their triangle offense last year. Who knows, it may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Bulls, as Jamal Crawford outplayed Jay Williams last year and may turn out to be a pretty good point guard for them. They could be good if Chandler, Curry and Crawford continue to develop. In terms of Amare, I think he has a lot of talent, but needs to harness it in the right way. He can be wild and inconsistent, and reminds me of Alfonso Soriano, who also has loads of baseball talent but absolutely sucked in the playoffs because of overaggressiveness. Maybe Amare can use a little of Yao's calmness in him, and Yao can use a little of Amare's aggressivesness.
Just like Qyntel whom everyone before the draft had as high as 3rd. After reports surfaced, he began dropping like a rock and with the veterans on Portland, he didn't get any time. In the summer leagues, he took a Zach Randolph cue and started dominating while Nachbar pretty much sucked. Just like Randolph, Woods is probably beginning to make his mark and will probably be a very good player really soon. Even though he didn't hit 21 of 22 jumpers like Nachbar and Langhi, it seems with his crazy athleticism and good handle, that even after the Blazers trade Wallace, they'll still have a very good player to replace him like they always seems to do. I was really hoping to draft woods with the 15th pick, but oh well. Does anyone know where Terrance Morris is? Did he get on with another team.
