For us in China, we just never take reports from SINA too seriously. It's almost MIP to tell the true from the made-up when reading articles on that website. So you guys can do better than bashing each other over some stupid article by some stupid chinese reporters.

Easy guys. Chinese sports writer loves to make up story. The part about Cato bumping Yao is just view of that stupid reporter, it's not a quote from Yao. Only quote from Yao about Cato is that
"Cato is our biggest find this season."

I got the same impression. The U.S media version of Yao seems always more humble and diplomatic. One might argue a translation issue, but from the live interviews I had chance to see, specially those after game one, Pine's translation were pretty accurate, which was humble and diplomatic.

How to explain this 'multiple personality' then?
Well, people may say something polite to the public but speak their mind privately. Does Yao consider the Chinese media as private medium? Your guess is as good as mine.

One comment about Sina and Sohu. While I don't read Sohu often, but I do read Sina Sport. I read for pure entertaining purpose. I can give you an example, which you can consider it as extreme, but does demonstrate some truth: sometime last year, a 'news' on Sina read something like this, ...San Antonio Spurs has decided to change it uniform. They will remove the DUCK from thire uniform...

So, PLEASE~~, my friends, don't waste energe to arugue something you read from Sina. Laugh about it , to me, is a better option.

you obivously missed the other Yao's quote regarding the incident. the reporter wanted to go and get an explanation from JVG or his take on Cato bumping Yao for a rebound, and then Yao stopped him by saying "JVG didn't say to me 'let Cato get the rebounds and you can focus on other things'. me being a center, the more rebounds, the better."

I wouldn't put any stock in whatever the Chinese media has to say.

THese are the same people that wrote a front page article about Yao having a serious injury (skull fracture or something) during the summer when it was just a cut with some stitches. They're also the same guys who wrote the article about Yao having heart complications because he had trouble breathing (Uh, it's called being tired after a game). Asian media, in general, is, at worst, overly sensational, and, at best, tabloid-esque.

Whenever Yao agreed to do an interview, you could totally tell how agitated he was, because they asked really manipulative questions to get him to say certain things.

I put as much belief in what this particular article said as I would an article in the Enquirer about a two-headed baby with a third eye in his spiked arm-pit.

Cato is one of the best things to happen to Yao this year, and Yao knows it. Anyone who plays basketball knows that people, fellow teammates included, sometimes, oftentimes, bump into each other for rebounds or when they try to block shots.

Jeez, whoever started this thread is lame.

If Yao said the above comments....he's right on both counts.

Roxbigfan, I think you need to calm down. Clearly the writer made it up. Yao didn't mean it at all!

Anyone who is suggesting Yao is inflammatory is obviously making **** up. Yao is laid back as a muther. That is part of his current trouble. He needs to be more aggressive.

I am not Chinese but I love Yao for his professionalism and his openness. I don't believe he resorts to media shots.

I think we've all fallen for it. The "reporter" made it up to create controversy and grab attention for the purpose of selling papers and web advertisements.

He certainly succeeded in getting more people to read it and get all riled up about it.

I happen to know of an excellent psychiatrist who can help Yao Ming work out some of these multiple personality issues. :)
