My digital cable company recently cut ties with NBA League Pass, because they said that there was not enough interest in my area. So....the only other way I'd be able to see the Rockets would be with a dish.....from direct tv. I'm just wondering if dishes have any problems with the weather, and if they're better than digital. I'm a big enough Rocket fan to switch companies and types of TV service, but I'm wondering if the change would be worth my money. Maybe someone can help me out.... Thanks, Cod
i've had negative reviews about direct tv and the weather during rocket games in the past (i have cable now), but others (including someone that has worked fore dtv) have had positive reviews. there's a few threads from the past here in the hangout somewhere... including the one that had the former dtv worker who had a solution to fixing the "weather" problem by adjusting some kind of frequency thing or something on it. it's there, but you just have to search for it bud.

Satellite weather problems are overrated . I've only been down once or twice due to "rain fade" over 5 years. I even had signal when parts of those tropical storms came through this summer. They make dish covers that are designed to protect signal fade caused by rain. I don't need a cover so I don't know if they work or not.
DirecTv is awesome. Rare weather problems; cable goes out just as frequently (or, I guess 'just as infrequently').
Im in Austin got direct TV this year for NFL package and league pass....no problems at all so far i reccomend it
There has to be a really, REALLY bad storm for there to be an issue, and even then, as long as the storm doesn't last 2.5 hours, you should still be able to catch some of the game.
Sattelite is better for the following reasons: 1. Better technology in recievers. 2. Always has (and always will have) more channel options. and probably the most important - 3. THE COMPANY IS DEALING ON A NATIONAL LEVEL Hence, they take their product VERY seriously, and have top notch customer service, and the people in charge KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING.
I've had both. Weather is rarely an issue for Directv. Years prior when I had cable, my cable has "out" way more in a month than my Directv had been out in a 7 year period. I recently switched back to cable, so this may no longer be the problem that it was (I don't know yet). I can see weather being an issue if the dish has an obstructed view and thus gets a weak signal. Unlike Nick, I found Directv customer service to be painfully bad. The reason I have cable now is that it gives me broadband internet access too. To keep Directv and still get RoadRunner, I would have needed to run a separate cable, which I did not want to do.
I got rid of my dish when I moved because I didn't want to have to keep my land phone line(DirecTV requires it). I'm using TWC cable and broadband services with no major problems yet.
IVE BEEN THROUGH HURRICANE ISABEL, and the dish was working fine until the electricity went out, sure cant do anything about no electricity, but otherwise i get good reception, and free (i didnt say this) Pay per view.
I have DirecTV and I love it. I will never ever go back to Warner. It only goes out when the weather is severe, when I would usually shut it down anyway to prevent surges.
I have DirecTV and I love it. Bought the NBA League Pass and watching the Lakers/Warriors game as we speak. Being in Dallas, it's really needed. But watching that Rockets/Grizzlies game sucked.... Join the crowd and get DirecTV!
Live in Bay Area of California, DirectTV went offline one day in last two years. Think it was a satellite problem.
Take off the DSL sucks part and I totally agree. I'm switching to DSL for the 2nd time because cable does SUCK. DirectTV and the NFL Sunday ticket are bomb-diggidy! Crown Royal and Diet Coke - thank you! How about them Bears?
Cod, I am in the same boat as you. My cable company in my area (Comcast, in Savannah, GA) cut ties with NBA League Pass 2 years ago because of "not enough interest." I have had enough and have decided to get DirecTV very soon.
If you go with DirectTV (which I have and am very satisfied with) make sure you get the DirectTivo - it's the DirectTV receiver with Tivo built in. You can watch one channel while recording another plus it records broadcasts digitally so you avoid one set of D/A conversions that you'd have if you bought a Tivo seperatly.
