I was shocked when I read the paper the Chronicle and it reported that Cato said that if he averaged 6 or 7 points per game, he would be "doing his job." I know that Cato has been injured and is playing backup this season, but anybody getting paid 42 million over 7 years should be expected to score more than that. Everyone, except Cato expect him to score at least in double digits. When your goals are that low, what incentive do you have to improve?

His offense is irrelevant, I want him to earn his money rebounding and blocking shots. Any points he can score is just gravy.

I agree Puedlfor... and I think it is good that Cato understands that he is not being paid to score. Granted, I would expect more points out of him than 5 or 6, because he should get that just off of feeds to him when he is open, but he needs to not even think of taking an assertive role offensively, and simply concentrate on his rebounding and defensive skills, which is what this team so sorely needs in the paint.

And playing solid defense does NOT mean just hacking the hell out of whoever is near him. Perhaps someone should notify Kelvin.

I'd be happy if he averaged at least 8 boards per 48 minutes, and maybe a couple of blocks. Maybe 8 PPG, 8RPG, and 1.5-2 BPG. We do not need another big scorer, we just need someone working the boards and changing shots on defense.

You guys always seem to forget. Right now, he's abench player, so 6 or 7 points would be great. But also, for future reference, as a starter, he's the FIFTH option on a team that has Francis, Mobley and Mo taking the shots, Walt taking the threes, and Shandon feasting on second chance points and slashes. All Cato can score on is dunks or alleyoops. His numbers as a starter don't need to be better than:

    10ppg
    9rpg
    2.5bpg

    And altering shots.

As a backup, even if he gets NO stats, he'll alter shots and bring in energy.

I disagree. No player should have the attitude that " all I need to do is get 6-7 points and grab a few rebounds." This is a half-ass attitude that would only come from Cato. How about over the summer work on a hook shot, turnaround, or any kind of low post game. This is the kind of attitude he should have. He doesn't need to be a dominate post scorer, but he can have the same sort of low post game Kevin Willis had.

He would be doing his job by scoring 5-7 points per game but if that's he's goal he's got an attitudeproblem.

Whoa now, Cato didn't say anything about grabbing only a few rebounds. He doesn't need to worry about offense more than getting putbacks and easy slams created by our guards.

He needs to worry about rebounding and defense, anything else is just the cherry on top.
