Didn't the Pats put a 1st round tender on him?

Butler wants Gilmore type of money that the Pats gave to Gilmore instead of Butler. And it would cost a 1st rounder to sign him (RFA tendered at 1st round level).

Rick Smith is on it. He is showing free agents how cool it is to watch a game at Toyota Center during free agency.

I'm kidding! But he was there. During free agency.

    Aaron Wilson:

They haven't done a ton so far. They have a lot of cap space & financial flexibility ($28.7M). They have a lot they can do. They're holding this money for Tony Romo, to add a QB, they can still extend Hopkins later in the offseason & look for some bargain hunting in the 2nd wave of FA. Still a few tackles & safeties available & could use some help at OLB.

    McClain:

(Mock draft) I thought it would be interesting to start that way. Do I think they'll do it? No. If they had a chance at him & a reasonable price, I think they would. Even if they sign Romo, they're going to draft a QB high.

Do you believe at 12, whatever Cleveland does, they'll get a QB & Texans at 25 will take whoever is there?

I believe they will. Savage contract is up. Weeden will be gone. If you have Romo, you need two [backups]. Everyone thinks he'll get hurt a 3rd consecutive year.

    Is Watson a franchise QB?

Way too early to know. He came up big in the last 2 championship games against Nick Saban. That's all I need to know. Give me Watson over any of those other prospects. Fast riser: Patrick Mahomes, Texas Tech.

    Another spot they need?

People say they're a QB away. They need a RT. Terrible draft for RT. Great draft for corners & safeties. OLB, mediocre. They'll sign 3-4 more free agents & then go into the draft. Maybe Rick will trade up for the first time since he's been GM.

Concerned about the losses in FA?

J.J. will help but he can't play in the secondary. I would have like to seen them keep Bouye. They offered $12.5M, he got 5 more million. Good for him. They got Kevin Johnson back. That helps ease the pain.

    Safety?

    I think they'll sign a veteran & draft someone.

    What went wrong with Brock?

They admitted they made a mistake & moved forward. A colossal mistake. He never fit with O'Brien. He's a tough love coach. He's used to having his back patted. They had a lot of shouting matches, including Tennessee. He didn't fit the system. I think the pressure got to him.

    Who's to blame? Everyone?

First of all, some in the national media continue to perpetrate the myth that Bill didn't want him. Bill wanted him. So did Rick. Bob McNair doesn't shove QBs down their throats. Both are to blame, now he's gone.

    AW:
Comes back to personality. A real entitled guy, coddled throughout HS & college. I don't think he handled tough coaching well. When it happened in Denver, he folded. He never got over being benched when they went to Manning. This is a guy who didn't mesh with teammates either, not just O'Brien. Osweiler just a misfit with personality & not accurate. That's a skill. He can't play, that's the bottom line.

    Tony Romo or bust?

JM: Not a bust. They'll use a first on a QB, along with Savage. They won't give a bad contract to Romo. They want him if he'll take a pay cut from Dallas & make it up in bonuses.

AW: In between a rock & a hard place. You may not get injury prone Romo because the Broncos are persuasive recruiters & have some cap room left, with some good WRs. Yes, Hopkins, Griffin, Fiedorowicz & Fuller are here. I think Denver is attractive. He has a lot to think about, including offers for TV. We'll see. I don't think it's any lock he comes here.

Smart move if they go this way?

AW: Something you should probably not do. They're doomed to do it but better off with Savage as the bridge to the rookie. I would not spend this money.

JM: If you get him on the contract you want, based on if he stays healthy to get his money, go for it.

    ...

Brian T. Smith: The Texans have become the Browns of NFL QBs. So of course Brock Osweiler was banished to Cleveland. What do Brock Osweiler, Ryan Fitzpatrick & Brian Hoyer have in common? 9-7 & barely better than average? Yeah, that's right. They're also the 3 starting QBs Bill O'Brien chose, Rick Smith signed & each were given one year a piece to guide the Texans. Whose fault is that? Bob McNair's? No. It's O'Brien & Smith. A working relationship that continues to let down the Texans & fans that help make McNair so rich. Smith is better than his haters refuse to acknowledge. He's also an incredibly average 88-88, now in his 12th year running a franchise still desperately searching for a lasting QB. O'Brien is just as responsible for this QB mess. He's created 3 strong tough teams & has won back to back AFC titles, as he so often let's us know. He's also never put together a team as talented as Gary Kubiak did in Houston. If we're still talking about the Texans QB problems at the end of this season, Smith & O'Brien should both be gone & they'll only have themselves to blame.

I don't think Romo is the answer with our line as weak as it is. But, whatever we do, I HOPE we draft TJ Watt. Putting him where John Simon was, next to his big bro, and with Clowney/Mercilus on the other side would be dirrrrrrrrrrrty.

Also, I wouldn't mind trading Cushing for a chance to trade back up in the draft either. Let TJ Watt fill his shoes if anything.

Eagles expected to release Chase Daniel today. Gives us another guy out there if we whiff on Romo or Cutler somehow.

    No thanks.

I'd take Sidney Jones in the fourth, if available. It'd be hit or miss, though. His injury could cost him ability.

Sidney Jones was a top 10 talent. Very significant injury but sign me up for taking him in the 4th.

If you had to pick a starter. Chase? Savage? Cutler? Rookie?

I agree. If the Texans believe that Robinson is a plug and play RT from day 1, you take him.... especially when you QB is likely to have played 5 games in the previous two seasons.

Not sure if Cutler is going to be able to deal with the coach's personality (or vice versa) either.

Obviously I wouldn't prefer him as a starter but you know how this franchise is when it comes to QB's. wouldn't shock me the least bit. To me, it's Romo then Cutler as the only options if we want to win a SB.

Dude BoB and Jay Cutler were made for each other. Jay is smart and fiery, he's exactly what BoB looks for in a qb. Smart and tough just like Fitzy. Yes he throws ints but they're Favre ints not Schaub ints, they hurt your team but its not due to lack of ability, its more of waiting for a wr to get open and then forcing a throw at the last second because of pocket pressure. He's more good than bad, just check his numbers
