The Nets areon the verge of being sold off an moved to L.I. This report from sportsbusinessdaily.com Islanders co-Owner and Nets suitor Charles Wang has pledged more than 5 million shares of Computer Associates, the company he founded, "to secure a large loan, which he intends to use to buy" the Nets, according to a source of Lynch & Arango of the N.Y. POST. The source, noting bids are due in 7-10 days, said, "It's a way for him to get liquid." The source added that the sale "should be completed by the end of the year." The amount of the loan, which came from Swiss billionaire Walter Haefner, CA's largest shareholder, was not disclosed. However, Lynch & Arango report that at the time the stock pledges were made, January and April, the total collateral "would have been worth about $67.5[M]" (N.Y. POST). If Kidd really wants out if the Nets move to Long Island, maybe the Rockets could finally have the point guard they need in order to move Franchise to the Two. Let the trade scenarios begin......... .........now!
If I'm going to fantasize about somehow acquiring franchise players without giving one up in return, I'm going to fantasize about Elton Brand. Santa, for Christmas please send me a Yao/Brand/JJ frontcourt.
Elton Brand is getting as fragile as Odom. The Clippers' curse? Cato is bigger and stronger and much cheaper. A better compliment to Yao from my point of view.
If Brand wasnt getting injured every other week, he would be the ideal player in Htown. The guy is a monster.
And aside from the move to LI, they had to carry KMart of the floor tonight with a very bad ankle sprain. They took Martin right to a hospital.
I don't want to disappoint you but if the Rockets do get Kidd they are going to have to give up something too. That Nets would want a Franchise (maybe more) or a Dynasty to do the trade. Either way I don't think the big 2 (Yao and Steve) would still be on the Rockets if we get Kidd.
First, just because you are arranging the financing to make your bid for the Nets doesn't mean they are going to be sold. Second, all it does is mean he has a longer commute, no big deal. He'll get used to it, or else he'll buy a house on long island. The Nets aren't trading him, Rod Thorn is too smart for that.
First off, according to the local media in NY/ tri-state region, Charles Wang (Isles owner) is on the verge of buying the team because of his bid, approaching the neighborhood of $275 million dollars in get this..........COLD HARD CASH! That's why he is putting up shares of his company, Computer Associates up for sale. To help him gain the liquid he needs to finalize the deal. Apparently, he is also close with Nassau officials on getting an arena deal in place in Long Island. So now, he is pulling out all of the stops to secure the Nets in his fold. If everything goes Wang's way, the Nets should be under his control by early next year, as soon as January. I must apologize, I should have mentioned this earlier. But I assumed everyone already knew what was going down being the way info seems to fly fast around here. I'll see if I can find some more telling articles on the potential sale of the Nets to Wang and Kumar. And I know that all the move will mean is a longer commute up the L.I.E. for Kidd unless he packs up and moves across the river with the Nets. You do realize I am a New Yorker, right. Personally, I think he would be better off moving to L.I. The area is much nicer and more laid back then north Jersey. And if Kidd is thinking about his family, they have much better schools for T.J. like the schools in Great Neck which have earned many national awards. But it doesnt matter how smart Rod Thorn is. If Kidd DOESN'T want to play in L.I. like he has stated in the past, Thorn will probably have no other choice but to trade him in the best interests of the Nets. The last thing the Nets would probably want is a disgruntled employee destroying team chemistry. And BTW, I posted this in humor because I thought we were bound to here some crazy pipe-dream trade ideas pop up involving Jason Kidd and the Rockets in light of the situation. That always seems to happen............
Tigereye, you're also aware that there are two other groups bidding for the nets, it's not over yet That is why I am saying that it is far from a done deal. The league hasn't signed off on it yet, either, which is probably the most important piece. I'm aware of what Kidd said, but he has no leverage in this. It's really not that big of a deal, it's inconvenient but it's not like they are moving to Albany or something, and his options are very limited. Remember when Michael Jordan said he would never play in another city besides Chicago and never play for another coach besides Phil Jackson? People change there minds.
True indeed. And for the Nets sake, I hope he does change his mind. another L.I. vs The City rivalry? I hope so cause those are so much fun.
I know it probably won't come true but Brooklyn would be what I would choose if I got my choice. Brooklyn vs. knicks? that would be cool.
Personally, I think J Kidd is being a whiner about moving to LI. I mean give me a break the guy signs over a 100 million dollar contract. Please stop whining! If the man really said this, he has lost a lot of credibility.
you guys should read espn every now and then, it was on front page of the nba section where Kidd retracted his desire to leave if the team moved to LI his is bit from espn Matter of commitment Team player: Kidd and family would move if need be. If the Nets are sold and moved to Long Island, Jason Kidd would honor his contract and not seek a trade -- contrary to his earlier feelings. "You can't do anything about a team being sold," Kidd said Oct. 30. "If it's Long Island, Brooklyn, Newark, we'll be happy to go." Kidd, however, is concerned about whether the team's new owners would spend money to keep the team intact. "You just don't know, is this team committed?," Kidd asked. "The players, the coaches, the general manager is committed. But is the owner committed? … Right now, I think everybody's commited, but at the same time, there is the question of who's going to own the team." Three groups -- including one with Sen. Jon Corzine (D-NJ) -- have submitted bids to purchase the Nets.
