its not like the entrance music was hardcore rave music or something... the old song is like a classic to every houstonian.. think about how pumped everyone in the crowd would be when they hear the old entrance routine
The drums present probably the most lame way to begin the game. How in the world do you expect that to "pump" up the players? You guys really think that Francis, Mobes, MoTay, JJ, and the rest of the guys like drums as opposed to something more upbeat?
I've gotta agree, the drums completely suck. That beat they play is just horrible! It wouldn't be so bad if they let the drummers do something different, maybe show some TALENT, but I can pull any 3 kids out of a high school band and get them to play that garbage. While I was at the game last night I was also thinking to myself that the sound in the arena was too quiet, which did nothing to take away from the fact that the fans that goto the game are a bunch of stiffs. I hate Utah as much as any other guy on the BBS, but at least their fans are passionate about the game. Oh, and yes, the PA announcer sucks big time. I heard him trip over his words several times, got the starting line up wrong, and did anyone else notice that the presentation of the retired jerseys was completely botched? The guy started announcing the jerseys left to right and the morons dropping them started from the wrong side and then decided to just drop them all at once.
I have the song I meant the actual intro though. Does anyone have an old tape and some way to record video/audio to their computer? I'd host it for a few days online if someone were to get it to me Email me if you have a mp3/wav/video of the old intro. mamolina@uh.edu
Yeah, those drums suck ass, sorry Chance. We are the freaking ROCKETS, there needs to be a count down to lift off before each game. Who runs that aspect of the orginization? Sometimes the most obvious and cliched stuff works the best.
don't ever sit it section 404 (i think that was the one). my friend and i got some preseason tickets and the drums were right next to us in that section. it was so frickin' obnoxious and loud!
I detest those horrific drummers. They make the place look cheap. The entire presentation is terribly amatuer. It makes the entire organization look bad. You are selling an entertainment product, and the quality and character of the organization is represented by your announcer, sound engineer, and stage director. Everything you do now is a failure. Replace the entire staff immediately.
you telling the truth pasox2 they need to replace that whole dang staff, i cant excited with "houston" silence, "rockets" silence. no team had a better announcer then our old one, nor a better countdown, it was classic.
We should have made this thread a poll so we could see how many people really do like them. I for one think the drums at the intro is bad and second rate. All of the other teams have great intros that pump up the crowd. The drummers don't do it for me.
I've hated those drummers since last year. When I first saw them bringing drums out onto the court I was immediatetly in pain. Dam I hate those guys. Then when they messed up on the retired jerseys, then on the introduction of JJ/Boki, and then that totally crappy intro by the drummers. My other big complaints were....Who the hell was the guy singing at the first halftime in Toyota Center history?!?!?!?!?! You would think they could've got something, anything, better than that. My other complaint involves the seating up where I was...theres so little room that I couldn't even put my feet flat on the floor without hitting the chair in front of me! Then comes the task of getting out of your seat and to the aisle, you know that was fun......I know that can't really be changed now so I only have 2 requests: Get rid of the drummers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fire the announcer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pugs
I agree the drummers give the entire intro a highschoolish feel, drummers suck!...bring back the old intro!
With the recent "drummers" and "announcer" threads, coupled comments about the intro and the old uni threads, I started thinking about characteristics of the Rockets organization that when I think about them now, were tradition. I loved game time when the announcer was about to start his speil and I'd turn up the sound on my stereo: "Alllllllright Houston! On your feet! And prepare for Rockets liftoff!" Then the countdown would begin and I'd get this euphoric feeling as I often cracked my first beer and took a seat on my couch in anticipation of a night of Rocketball or cheered loudly from the upper or lower bown of the Summit/Compaq Center during the player introductions while the blood pumping intro music was beating over the stadium speakers. It's a shame now because there isn't much we can claim as tradition.
Agreed kinda... the overall pregame show is embarrassing...getting the fans to chant rockets in chorus when everyone is still filing in is goofy. It sounds so out of snych and is reminiscent of last year...it is not inspiring at all...so the drums are a part and shouls be take out....we need something with more high energy and a faster pace...it moves so slow it is odd sounding and feeling.... drummers were cool in the rafters though.... But, Tim, please do something about the opening....it is so disjointed and uncomfortable...we need to music and the fast paced call for lineup...not this slow, methodical, pace like chanting and drum beating...
Question for those who've been to one of these last two games at TC... Are they utilizing the awesome scoreboard and HD ribbon boards for special effects during the starting lineups? Fran Blineberry was complaining that they weren't in his first article, and its really inexcuseble that they would have all this at their disposal and not use it. If its just the drums and spotlight, well... that could have been accomplished easily at the drungy old Compaq. USE THE NEW TECHNOLOGY!!! (like most teams with new arenas do).
The Rocket's drummers are a bunch of washed up band nerds who have no rhythm. THEY MUST BE STOPPED!!! Every game that I attended last year they annoyed the hell out me. Can Les spend a little more than minimum wage and get some real musicians? If not, get us some kind of taped intro music. Every time that I go to a game I feel like I am at a high school pep rally.
