That's what also makes a difference between a contender and a pretender (oh, and btw i'm not really sure why we should think this roster is a contending roster in the first place). Look, McFail was a terrible coach, bottom tier in the league with guys like Del Negro and Corbin imo, but on ONE SINGLE thing i always thought he was right, players have to play hard, there's not a magic formula to cover that. You can be a top tier defensive coach, the best in the world, but if YOUR players don't have the mentality to show up every game and give 100% regardless of who they play, there's not much you can do aside from hope they develop that will. I don't think it's a case the Rockets never come out flat against the Spurs but they do it a lot of times against bad or decent teams...tonight the Jazz were without Favors and Hill, they probably thought it was going to be easy or not that difficult anyway...and they got their ass kicked.
Their record is 8-5. Not quite as blistering as they have been but still pretty good. Not even close to pedestrian. What besides w/L record are you using to define them? Because mentioning that, and it being a fact, holds a little more weight than unspecified feelings... They have overachieved. Haven't you been watching? Nobody expected this team to be so great. ....this team doesn't have great shooters? Just like an all time offense right? But not great shooters. Shooters. Ha, get it? Like heroin?

The silver lining is that when Harden realized his jumper was off, he continually attacked the rim. In the past, he'd just attempt (and miss) more step-back threes and then start deferring to others.
Calvin: If you remember, one of my keys was middle distance shooting. Utah plays great D on the 3pt shooting. Saw none of that at all. What happened to the stop & pop? Make him come away from the basket. Mike Anthony: They do a good job covering our guys. A little of them, a little of us. We had enough points to win. Defensively, gave up a lot to start. They made some big shots. It comes down to foul shots. They made 7 more. They missed 3, we missed 10. A little of that. They made the big plays, we didn't. Energy at the start? Rockets are not going anywhere until the coach holds the players (esp. Harden) accountable. I watched a lot of Spurs games and I can't remember how many times Pop sub out the whole starting lineup 5 minutes into the game. Just this season even Leonard was subbed 1 min into the 3rd for one defensive lapse. If you don't play hard, don't play. That's the kind of message this team need.

i just wish the rockets had something to go to when the threes are not falling. the jazz can just slow the game down and crash the boards. they controlled the pace, boards and thus they got more possessions than the rox by maximizing theirs opportunities in a game where those extra few possessions make all the difference. too bad they suck. wait glad they suck someone who can just go one on one either in the post or from mid range.
It's fine to adjust expectations but the dramatic "This team is trash." etc etc is overreaction. The team is alright, it's alright to drop a game or two every now and then. Nothing has changed in the standings. But if you read some people's replies man it makes it seem like we are about to drop out of the playoffs.
On the bright side the Rockets are still 3rd Sun will rise tomorrow and we will be 3rd. Should keep us in good shape to maintain 3rd most winningest record in regular season over last 10 years
Run us off the 3pt line and chances are you will win because our D is inconsistent. The secret is out, time to adjust.
