Your mistake in your analysis is not understanding that Trump is a fan of whatever policy the last indivudal who praised him supports.
What do you expect from Trump? Someone who empathizes and understands what soldiers actually go through? Trump is a rich billionaire who has been oblivious to the situations of 99% of Americans, whether it be working class, inner city, or military. Sad part is, dumbasses voted for him thinking that he understood what they were going through.
He didn't negotiate any savings for the F-35. He claimed he negotiated a $600 million saving for LRIP 10 (low rate initial production batch 10), however in mid to late 2016 the air force have already stated they are expecting a 6-7% price reduction going from LRIP 9 to LRIP 10 which magically translates into around $600 million savings.

Most people probably don't realize this, the actual military budget/spending is significantly larger than the official budget. Things like veterans pension, nuclear weapon research & maintenance & production etc are not part of the official military budget (they add up to over $100 billion per year). I suppose in an attempt to make our military budget look not as large & make other country's military budget seem larger, when comparing military budgets the Departments of Defense usually include these types of off budget spendings for their estimate of other country's military spending.
If you include VA benefits/disabilities and ancillary departments like the Dept. of Energy, which help maintain and research our nuclear arsenal, the true cost of our military industrial complex run over a trillion dollars. Trickle down baby!
