Before I complain wholeheartedly, I wanted to know if they ever discuss the Rockets? I leave for work every morning at the same time (7am) and usually make it there by 8am. I never, ever hear them mention more than 4 words about the Rockets. The sports flash is the only thing that mentions the city's only champions. When baseball season is in full effect, they yak, yak, yak about those losers all morning it seems. College football, NFL, golf and Lance's corny @ss impersonations usually inhabits my radio while I weave down the beltway, making my way to my cubical. I have never been a fan of the "morning show" with John and Lance, but wanted to know for sure before I bash them with all my might.
You listen to 610 in the morning? Dude, you gotta jump on the Walton and Johnson bandwagon on KLOL...best morning show ever. Rich and Charlie are what I listen to on my way home...
Lance and John are really slipping. And you're right, they hardly ever talk about the Rockets, that has more to do with how they have played recently. When the Rockets were in the playoffs, it was all Rockets all the time radio. Its really determined by what the listeners want to discuss.
I feel the same way about 610. They give no love to the only good team in the city. Recently the only thing they like to talk about is point spreads. I end up listening to 950 just out of pure boredom.
101.1 FM It's not sports talk, but those guys are really funny. You probably won't like it at first, but it really grows on you...
Yeah, that's true too......but They yak about the Stro's whether they are winning or losing. It's sooooo frustrating! It seems to be natural for John because all he seems to be knowledgeable about is baseball. Lance is happy as long as he gets to do his impersonations and invite his impersonating buddies to the show. I continue to put myself through hell every weekday morning hoping for a decent hour from them. It's pretty r****ded of me. Right now, Prairie View has a better chance winning two games in a row than for me to get ONE enjoyable hour out of them. Maybe it's me...I don't want to sound like a grumpy old man.
I just emailed their program manager and said: Guys, There are a lot of Rockets fans on a certain fan site really complaining about the lack of talk about the rockets by your morning crew. I have to agree. How come the only team that has put Houston on the sports map gets no time on the the station? We are all tired of point spread talk and Astros talk. Last time I checked sports gambling is illeagal in Texas and the Astros have never one the World Series. You probably would increase your litseners if you mixed in some Rockets talk. After all aren't you the offical Rockets Station??? I would encourage all of you to do the same. Just go to there site and you can easily email them.
agreed....It took a while for them to be a constant fixture on my morning drive. the are still irritatnig at times, but funny more often than not. I still miss S&P tho...
Thanks....I'll try anything! It's either that or I'll end up driving my Cadi off the beltway ramp crossing I-10.
The thing that gets me is all the damn football talk on the station during football season. McClain (who I actually don't mind) twice a week, Casserly Friday mornings, Capers Monday afternoons, Glenn Tuesday afternoons, and McKinney on tuesday or Wed mornings. Give it friggin rest please.
Houston has been and always will be a football town, that's the truth. The only time the Rockets got much respect in Houston was during the title years. Even then, the Rockets couldn't sell out a playoff game against the Suns while I remember the Oilers drawing 50,000 against the Dolphins in their final lame duck season. As long as Houston has a football team, the Rockets will be second fiddle...
I can understand talking football during football season, but it is also basketball season and therefore, there should be plenty of basketball talk also. What I dont understand is why there is still so much baseball talk about a crappy team that is not even playing right now. Freaking baseball season is over...lets concentrate onthe sports that are playing.
Lance is a football guy (being with pigskinsports.com) and John is a baseball guy. They rarely talk rockets or bball, they will talk rockets if somebody calls but unless it's playoffs or the rockets made headline grabbing move, they won't talk about it. But if you're into betting in sports (particularly fball), you'll like them.
I noticed this too - but in their defense, basketball season JUST started. I think that they booked all that football programming for the entire season (not just until bball starts). Football lends itself to coached corners, weekly player and GM discussions becasue that play one a week. The Rockets are always gettting ready for the next game. Plus, lets face it, the football players (Glen, McKenny, Carr) provide a little bit better voices on the radio. Sorry - but don't you all remember the train wreck that was the "Steve Francis Show" four years ago. I would rather listen to Yao stammer through broken English than have Cat's umm...ahh...ummm.. (instert non-responsive answer here) But in the end - if you want simple, straight-forward Rockets talk CALL THE SHOW (it is a call in show after all) - if enough people call in with Rockets takes, then they will open it up for discussion. I mean for crying out loud - they let that Jetliner guy come on every freaking Monday with his takes on the Jets and HORSE RACING dial the number fellas !
