Went to Memorial City Mall last night and went to the food court and decided to try out this Sarku Japan place. I got the Chicken Teriyaki. Pretty good stuff. Then again I was also very hungry but I thought it was tasty. Any of you guys ever had it?
It's the best mall food. They make the chicken right in front of you. Only thing I get if its available. I ask for extra sauce haha
I'll use this place for a PSA for my favorite Japanese restaurant in Houston: http://www.taikojapanesecuisinehouston.com/ It's kinda way tf out there, but if you're in the area it's a must have. At 1960 and something (Jones?).
i recommend the beef/shrimp/noodle combo. hard for me to eat anywhere else at a mall knowing sarku is there...
actually it's more like EXTRA meat for a buck and half ..... that "extra" depend on the guy's generosity
they usually have the longest line for a reason.... well longer cooking time also got something to do with it.
I'll double down on your post and recommend my favorite Japanese place: Izakaya Wa on Memorial near Beltway 8. http://izakayawa.com/ Has sushi, but is not a sushi place. It's an Izakaya, which is like a small bar/happy hour/tapas place in Japan. Tons of skewers, decent sushi, authentic Japanese dishes (good curry at lunch), and great Udon or Soba. They even make rice balls. The one thing they are missing is any sort of good Ramen bowl. I do think they have Oden on special sometimes, however. They also have Orion beer, which is a really light beer from Okinawa (my cousin who was stationed there with the Air Force got me hooked on it). It is not strong or crafty, but its perfect with grilled/fried skewers and Udon.
They are everywhere. There are also tons of places exactly like them. It is good, but not the best. Wish they would have free standing locations instead of always being in malls. Where I used to work I found a place like it only a couple of miles away that was free standing, but not long before I switched jobs.
Izakaya wa is our favorite Japanese place, we go there a couple times a month. Perfect pub food, and a good introduction to the non sushi non raw fish side of Japanese cuisine. I'm not a sushi guy myself.
