Cuban: Thumbs down on new uniforms 12:57 PM CST on Thursday, October 30, 2003 By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News OAKLAND -- The Mavericks' alternative silver uniforms likely won't be making a return appearance. Owner Mark Cuban said the outfits simply didn't make the grade with him or with fans when they were unveiled in the opener Tuesday. He said he got only three positive e-mails about the uniforms out of about 300. The new look marked the first time in franchise history that the team has had an alternate road uniform. The original plan was for the new uniform to be used a several more games throughout the season. "The idea of the second road uniform is to add a slight edge to our current look," Cuban said before the opener. The uniform includes much of the same look of the jersey and shorts that were revamped in 2001. The color, however, is strikingly different from the deep blue that the Mavericks have been wearing on the road.
LOL! As I stated at the beginning of this thread, those things were hideous! I am not even sure what they were thinking with those unis! 3 postive emails out of 300, LOL That's about right. Props to Cuban though for ditching the unis. I ccould see some owners continue to have the players wear them because they put money into their development. Cuban here is just taking a loss because the fans dont like 'em. Good for him!
well its good to see an owner listen to what the fans want. I didnt like the Mavs jerseys either although it was a nice attempt it just didnt work right I guess The PHX jerseys will be on TV today after the ROX game so I guess an informed decision can be made on the look.
Ditching them already! Cuban's different from the rest of the pack, you've got to admit. I salute him for that. Now, why he even let them consider putting those HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE uniforms on in the first place he has to take responsibility for. I can no think of no uglier uniform in the history in the league, and yes I'm familiar with the Cavaliers' shameful past. On TV, it was really hard to make out anything on the jersey, and the uni's looked dark gray, not silver. Hey, this is not practice, get the practice grays off and put on the real team colors. Still, I can't get over it. A one-time appearance for a non-all-star game jersey. We witnessed history.
Cuban came on local radio and said that the uniforms were supposed to be silver and not pewter. He said that Reebok sent the wrong color but some of the players liked them so they still w**** them. The NBA has waived the 2 year waiting period for new uniforms because of the mistake and the shiny silver uniforms will come out next season.
