Not surprised Williams chose the Rockets. The Jazz have a solid up and coming team, but would you really wanna go from LA to Salt Lake City? H-Town at least falls somewhere between the two. As for the Wizards, they're also a good team, but the Rockets are better.
From what Cyber has said, Lou Will is a good locker room guy as well, and a very hard worker Maybe he can teach KJ how to draw fouls on 3's
yeah, I can see the first post in this thread. I was referring to the confusion over who was Lou's agent. Just saying the part of equation to get the message to the Lakers to send Lou to us (jokingly) was just a two person (three hat) conversation. JH, his agent and LAL's GM. two people. And, Lou's agent can still be irrelevant. Pelinka can ask Lou without his agent around. Then Lou tells his agent LAL is offering him the Rockets from a pick of three teams, what does he think?
The TrueHoop and NBA Lockdown guys seemed to feel this way about the Vlade-Vivek dynamic. They characterized the rapid escalation of that trade as being due to the rest of the front office guys being opportunistic with Vivek's affinity for Buddy. By all accounts Vivek seems to still be loyal to the Warriors from his time as a part owner there. Playing up Buddy as a Curry-like player to Vivek was their way of getting out from under the Boogie contract before he signed that 200M extension.
LOL @ "I'll Like you for it" It was on his live cast or whatever that is called last night. He didn't actually tweet it (he doesn't tweet quite as much information as he used to ) but there are some breakdowns of it over at the Lakers forum.
Very interesting. Thanx Cyber. So who makes the decisions? Magic? With Pelinka bringing the options on the table? Bird and Magic negotiating over a PG trade..hm I dont see that working out.
At least yesterday it was apparently Magic. The ongoing dynamic will be interesting. I said it from the start; the success of this move (Magic as president) will depend largely on whether he is letting other people make personnel decisions.
But but but.... Nobody wants to play with Harden. No one wants to play for Houston 'cause Morey and how the Rockets treat players.
lou is a cool guy, Ive been following him on social media for a min, During summers he is always working out with this trainer on weights and basketball drills. I think these workouts go down at his house, its a outside full court in Atlanta, its some curry type summer drills he is always doing, and keep in mind its super HOT in atl during the summer and he be outside grinding yes hes a Playa use to have 2 girls but now he is only with one of them, they were just on vacation during the allstar break together, living it up private boats etc I really like this deal ! I wonder does morey look at adding a star now or summer, he has some nice players still, dekker, harrell, bev, capela, anderson and gordon, gordon is now replaceable if we could get a star. or maybe we add someone through free agency and move a big contract to make room
I agree. I am not optimistic at all if Magic is the one who makes the decisions especially if one of his criteria is "doing right by the players". It's the Lakers not Charlotte or Utah. The biggest market in the world. You aren't in need of doing right by the players like some small market teams that are sweating to get one good free agent to develop a good repuation. Just win and whether you do right or not by a roleplayer, the star will want to come.
It was with a his agent.. who is being considered for the gm job and hasn't put pen to paper. He didn't talk to a team... this is equivalent to player talking to player.
Man I have a feeling Magic is going to do a great job. Great to hear a player chose us and over two equally good (IMO) teams. Wizards and Jazz both are on the up and so are the Rockets.
Magic's history of being very impressed by box score numbers instead of efficiency numbers and being pretty old school with things like "guy just knows how to win" and stuff would be alarming to me if I were a Lakers fan.
I just hope that his social media persona is different than his actual beliefs otherwise....yeah..not going to look good.
Kupchak finally threw the last bit of dirt in his grave when he didn't include Ingram in a trade to get Boogie. Way too conservative; if you can get a top talent, you get him, then figure out the other stuff later. We'll see about Magic. I like his first trade, anyway. Maybe we can trade KJ for Ingram while he's in a good mood.
Yeah, the big test will be the decision-making of the drafts. But is Palinka an expert n that anymore than Magic? So both Magic and the GM might need to be bosses who allow scouting/analytics staff do their job. I look at it more will he let the GM do his job, and only chime in to create the longterm strategy and preserve the LAL mythos of being a top franchise destination for free agents. He can do that with infrequent decisions/vetoes regarding singular acquisition. But certainly, he and the owner would insist on full disclosure of details and decision making power of such moves as that Boogie trade. kupchack shockingly did not let his boss weigh in on keeping Ingram or not. So I imagine Jeanna will have Magic be more hands-on at first. They may be able to form a good cop / bad cop thing with agents...and players. The drafting will be key though.
