So I'm driving to work this morning switching radio stations, and I happen to land on Everybody Wants Some. I cranked it and sang along at the top of my lungs all the way down the Hardy Toll Road. Reminded me of how much I loved Van Halen when I was a kid.

I'd have to give the slight edge to Fair Warning over Van Halen I, but not by much. Women and Children First is right up there as well.

That last one shouldn't even be an option.

    Absolute Blasphemy!

I do enjoy some Sammy's VH tunes, but early VH is classic and can not be touched by Sammy

Depends on what day it is. ;)

Today it's been II, just 'cause I've been bumping Beautiful Girls and Dance the Night Away this morning.

Can't go wrong with any of them though, even the Hagar stuff. Van Halen rules.

Remember when those tools started yanking our chains by telling us that DLR was getting back with Van Halen. I was stoked...and of course, it was too good to be true.

I thought 1984 was the pinnacle, but I think a lot of hardcore VH fans don't like it because it was the first one to really blow up as far as sales were concerned. To me it was the best from top to bottom.

I remember I went to see them in Mobile when I lived there and David Lee Roth exposed himself to girl supposedly onstage and they were banned from Mobile. They haven't returned since. And as a side note, the whole thing about the M & Ms (no brown ones) is true.

right now it's definitely fair warning

push comes to shove, hear about it later, unchained, etc...it's got to be by far evh's finest guitar work.

close second would be van halen 1 because it's loaded with classics.

then 1984 has probably my favorite VH song, drop dead legs.

Everyone go back and read Ric's post at least seven times. Commit it to memory. Then listen to "Unchained" until you agree with him. If you have any sort of musical taste, it shouldn't take long. :)

This is sorta like asking which one of your kids you like the best, isn't it? I think II is underrated. Go listen to D.O.A. real quick. And of course Beautiful Girls...the song in the Schmitt's Gay commercial.

I'd probably have to go with the debut though. Best debut ever along with Appetite.

    I went with 1984.

I remember specifically seeing the casette tape at my buddy's house and thinking how freaking taboo the cigarette and baby thing was. 'Panama' and 'Hot For Teacher' made this album..... I didnt know what boobs were until I saw the video for 'Teacher' video :D. I was 8 years old so you can imagine...... 'Jump' was probably one of the cheapest videos ever made.

I actually voted for Fair Warning 'cause it only had one vote. That's not right.

Remember the first time you heard Eruption? Anybody else say "What the hell was that"?

For that reason alone, Van Halen is the logical choice

My god...you expect me to choose from the early VH albums???

I cant do it, they each are great in their own ways.

    VH 1
    Fair Warning
    Women and Children
    VH 2
    1984
    Diver Down

the top 2 switch depending on moods...but even tho I really didnt like DLR...I absolutley LOVE the DLR-era VH albums.

I loved VH2. I burned out my cassette copies of I, II and Fair Warning when I was in high school.

The first one was great for its sheer newness, but I loved II probably the best. Light Up the Sky is still an all time favorite.

I also liked Diver Down because of Little Guitars and Atomic Punk.

Man, they were all so good.
