Can we really count on Eric Gordon?

He has been vital to our success this season, but I'm concerned about the little nagging injuries he's dealing with. It's clear that we are a completely different team with him in the lineup, but he seems to be one of those guys that has to be 100% healthy in order to be effective. Can and should we count on him being our 2nd playmaker for the rest of the season including the playoffs, or should Daryl look to address this issue at the trade deadline?

BTW- Gordon is questionable for tonight's game...

It depends. If you complete your sentence, "Can we really count on Eric Gordon....to miss significant playing time, leaving a shortened rotation because D'Antoni refuses to play Brown, KJ, or Ennis, even if it's better to lose and not exhaust our main guys than to lose and exhaust them", then, yes, we can count on Eric Gordon.

But it would have been too long a title for your thread.

Yes, we absolutely need to replace Brewer with someone that can contribute in a well rounded way (a basketball player, not a specialist) - who is also capable of playing heavy minutes to both spell Ariza and replace Eric Gordon's minutes when/if he's out or off. Wilson Chandler has been thrown around lately here. That's fine. But even someone who isn't of that caliber would be satisfactory.

But... IMO that isn't priority #1 right now as far as need goes. More of an icing on the cake acquisition.

I think our #1 priority should be a rim protecting big too, but we seemed to handle Capela's injury just fine. On the other hand when Gordon misses a game or two we play like a bottom tier team.

I mean...not really? There's a reason he wasn't a marquee free agent. He's obviously good, but inconsistency and injuries have always been know for him. I'd be surprised if Gordon got back to what he was doing in December, but he's still a valuable player.

you can tell by his overly animated defensive reactions just about every single time he's ever called for a foul......the guy is hyper-sensitive and probably has a very low pain tolerance......that's why throughout his career he opts to sit for little booboo's that most other players would still suit up for

    We have to.

He is the X-factor that keeps this team rolling. When he is hitting his 3's, we look a really good team. When he is bricking or injured, we look mediocre.

Rockets need 4 quality rotational-worthy guards. They have 3. The way Gordon/Bev plays, we can't count on health and need to mitigate that.
Need to grab another decent combo guard at the trade deadline.

Probably not. Probably not Beverley either. Or Nene. Both guards will be hurt when it matters most. And then everyone will be wondering why the hell Bobby Brown is playing against the Spurs in the playoffs & why Daryl didn't address the issue. ;)

The difficulty and density of our schedule has taken its toll on a number of our players, so it's no surprise that EG's durability has taken a hit. We've played 55 games now, with only 27 left. If he needs to miss a game here or there, I don't think it will change our playoff ranking all that much, and I think he'll be fine come playoff time.

Many of us have been worried about injuries from the beginning. Bev, Gordon, Anderson, and Nene all have injury histories. So far, all of them have missed games. That's 4 rotation guys.

Depth is going to be a major question for us comes playoffs time.

Are we talking about the same Gordon? He's about as low-key on the court as they come.

Forget his previous years, just for the sake of argument.

This year is no different than every single year of Ginobody's career...wrt nagging injuries. Only difference is,,,and why we are complaining about it,,,is we can't sustain losing him like SAS could sustain losing Ginobody.

he protests to the refs whenever called for a foul or fouled himself without a whistle. albeit at least he does this in a non-threatening way and therefore never gets T'd up, you can see him always throwing his hands up and making that exasperated face

Time to start treating Gordon like Nene.
