Wanted to share with my fellow Houstonians. I travel for work often, and have seen almost every major city in the US (whether work related or not). But in my opinion, Houston is the city that has grown so much in recent years compared to everywhere else, even with the major down turn in oil and gas. The diversity of this city is no where close to any other city in Texas. And the restaurants this city has to offer trumps the majority. Love this city, and proud to call it my home
Doesn't really compare to the great cities of the world but it is not bad. You could do worse, like Dallas, but could also do much better, like SF, NYC, Berlin etc etc.
Sure you could compare it to NYC and SF/Bay Area but those are on a different level. Comparing Houston to similar cities like Atlanta or DFW, Houston is leaps and bounds above better. Also consider income to standard of living and take the Orange County/ Anaheim / Irvine / Huntington Beach area. Comparable as far as size and population to Houston, very diverse, and IMO one of the greatest places in America to live (low crime, one of the best places to raise children, gorgeous, etc). But there is no way in hell I could afford the same standard of living compared to here. And as far as opportunity growth, hands down Houston has this conquered.
Nice!! Hopefully Houston continues its surge. Almost 3rd largest US city. Already 3rd tallest. Suberbowl Live was nice amongst the buildings. The new hotels are niceys especially the Marquis. The MetroRail planning is/was beyond full-blown baffoonery, but it's better than nothing. Keep growing. Win some championships.
I like it here. It's not really beautiful though. Probably one of the most hideous cities in the country. Seems like a concrete jungle. Seattle and San Francisco are beautiful. Houston isn't imo. Houston's biggest attraction is that it's cheap.
I like Houston, but it's not the most aesthetically pleasing city. But in terms of culture, this is hands down one of the best.
