I've tried nearly every burger in Houston, and I will say I was most recently impressed with Hopdoddy, but only if you upgrade to Akaushi beef. The extra $4 is so worth it.

I'll also say that the Burger Joint makes a decent burger.

The greek (lamb) burger is solid, just make sure to tell them to cook it medium or I'm sure it will be dry.

Blakes BBQ does a great burger. I'm partial to flat top burgers and meat proportional to the bun size. The ones with the large meat patties are good, but not my cup of tea.

Looks like Burns BBQ is opening up a burger stand next door. Not sure when it opens.

Maybe I am. And now that you quoted me, it is now creating buzz and trending. I just made a million dollars from it. Thanks.

The jalapeño poppers at Walmart's deli are 100x better than Jack N the Box and 10x better than Arby's.... and they're 1/3 the price.

Man, I really don't like Hubcap Grill. A bunch of gimmicks on the menu instead of well cooked & seasoned beef.

Oh man...don't make me go to Walmart. I love me a good jalapeño popper and finding good ones are rare. Store bought ones in the package flat out suck.

Strangely, the old SNL skit "Hans and Franz" is trending as well. "Little girly man...we're here to PUMP you UP! Thank me now and thank me later! (muscle pose)" :)

It's not my favorite either, but I always get it after being dismissed from jury duty downtown.

Any other downtown burger places worth mentioning?

Cottonwood is my college roommate's place. He's the exec chef there and La Grange in Montrose. The Squirrel Master burger has been named a bunch of times as one of the best in Texas. It's a damn good burger. Everything there is really good. I especially am in love with the poblano pepper rings.

Actually, store bought ones can be quite good if you deep fry them.

I'm with you there. Gimmicky and sloppily assembled, the buns don't hold up to anything and it's a mess to eat.

I hear yall. I hate goopy, fall apart, knife and fork burgers. I love chili/bbq sauce/queso/etc, but on a burger it's a disaster. Went to Hubcap before a Stros game last summer, checked out the menu (no, I don't need f'ing peanut butter on my burger, thanks), and got a bacon cheeseburger. It was good.

I think the only locations open are the one off San Felipe/Fountain View (my go to spot) next to Rons Pub and then there is one in the med center.

But I grew up going here so even though there may be a better burger out there, the way these taste are just so nostalgic and hit the spot each and every time. And the best part, if you want to hit Rons Pub next door for some beers, you can call in your order and they will bring it over to you.

Agree. Plus way too geasy to eat without going home and changing.
