Agree w' justtxyank, but to the point of the OP, Bush pal David Frum writes well in the Atlantic today. Not sure if he still gets to be called a conservative, but his point is that instead of some crazy 1930's thing, the worst path is a gradual move toward autocracy. Interesting points and also an informative interview on NPR this morning.

    https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/03/how-to-build-an-autocracy/513872/

he starts with a totally realistic picture of Trump's second inauguration in 2021, with deficit spending having expanded the economy, the resistance largely in useless shambles, and voter suppression having worked like a charm.

I have told the fellow himself that he's a Trump supporter, regardless of what he's posting here. He's an extremist, in my humble opinion, busy coming up with excuses for what I consider inexcusable behavior by Mr. Trump. I don't think he truly understands what a "liberal" is, what an "extremist" is, what a "conservative" is. And I disagree with you about whether he's "right-wing." He's going face first down a playground slide right into the Trump/Bannon maw, which is opened wide, ready to receive him. I think he's one of the most bizarre members posting down here.

To be fair, those of us who are Democrats, and I'm a proud Democrat, and those of us who are liberal, and I consider myself liberal on social issues and a lot of other issues, often disagree with each other, ardently. It's a weakness of the Democratic Party and whatever progressive/liberal movement(s) there are in this country. A lack of unity. We may outnumber the extremists, but they are organized and they vote. That's more than I can say about a lot of people who consider themselves liberal or progressive, and their participation, or lack there of, in the last election.

I think "conservative" right now is a blown up word. I got called a liberal last week for being against tariffs.

sounds great except i'm not white LOL!!! but I don't want them feeling left out because they still have power and we(usa) need them. i'm 1st generation American from legal immigrants, who eventually naturalized btw... you could say certain things I believe in are liberal and certain things I believe in are conservative, like I said i'm complicated so don't label me.

If you think white people have been left out in this country, there is absolutely a label that is appropriate.

Right, I've already acknowledged that is how these people feel and you have supported that argument. So you are a Trumpeter.

I just don't see the GOP Congress going along with this huge deficit spending binge that would be needed in order for Trump to create jobs on a massive scale.

This. Somebody around here was laughing at George Will as a quasi-liberal recently.

There's no such thing as a Conservative anymore, it's right-wing populism whether we want it or not.

I'm surprised there isn't a thread freaking out about who the new SCOTUS justice is going to be. I would have thought it would be the new excuse to protest.
