Is it worth it? I absolutely HATE "regular" radio because there are so many commercials. I never thought I'd pay $10/month or whatever it costs for XM but am now considering it. I bought a new car and they gave me a free 3 or 4 month trial and I'm kinda digging the various genres. I haven't tried the sports channels, but the Urban, Rock, and Dance genre stations are fairly good. Got any opinions? Share them - my freebie subscription runs out in February! As it stands, I'm leaning towards getting it and maybe saving $10/month somewhere else.
DoD since you already have XM, some of this won't be a surprise to ya. XM's alright. I have noticed more and more commercials within the past 6 months. It really sucks, cause usually it's commercials about other stations on XM (same one's over and over and over). If you like a variety of music, then it's worth it, if you only like rock or rap/hip-hop, you will get tired of the music rotation (they often repeat the same songs in the same order every few hours). As far as quality goes.. it's pretty good (not quite CD quality). There are lots of times I am in areas outside of the transponder towers, so I get no tunes. I've heard Sirius has less commercials, but higher monthly fee.
Hey Sattle. Where's Big E?! Thanks man. I like listening to all kinds of music. I was flipping through some of the channels and noticed they even had African music. I enjoy listening to "world music" even if I have no clue what they're saying. And yeah, I listen to all kinds of stuff : Jazz, Rock, Pop, Hiphop, Techno, etc. The commercials weren't that bad. If one came on I'd just switch over to one of the other stations. Unlike on regular radio where it seems everybody's playing commercials at the same time and the places that aren't are full of idiot DJ's babbling nonsense. Like I said, the first few months are free, but I'm wondering if it's worth sacrificing $10/month for. I like it so far.
Excellent choice...God, I love this car...http://www.acura.com/models/model_index.asp?module=tl I'm not sure how the handling compares, but I really don't think there is a comparison in looks...The TL takes the cake. The 270 HP is nice, also.
My dad has a Suburban with the XM radio in it, and I love listening to XM. Good sound quality and the fact that the range goes almost anywhere in the country (supposed to be everywhere) is nice.
but as for the XM, its great and all, but i would rather save up and get an MP3 PLayer that hooks upto my car instead.... like the ipod
Was at a small sort of outdoor ice house a few weeks ago. Some dude pulled up in his truck with blues blarring out. He parked and kept it on. The music was so good I had to ask who it was and he actually had XFM. It sounded great as he had a nice amp and good speakers. My brother visited from L.A. last weekend and his rent-a-car had Sirius in it. It had a great variety of stations as well, but it kept losing reception. Kinda annoying. Oh yeah DOD, nice car. Way to spoil yourself!
I fell in love with it after drooling over a G35 for about 2 years. I got black exterior with ebony interior - it's a wicked look. I had a black/black Maxima. If you're looking for more performance, you're better off looking at the G35. It's got about 25-30 more ft/lbs of torque for that extra thrust. If you're looking for techno-wizardry like the navigation unit and the ability to tell the car to lower or raise the A/C temp or ask it what time it is or tell it to change radio stations via voice commands - you want the TL. You also want the TL if you want a sweeter interior and DVD 5.1 Audio. Of course being the geek I am, I wanted the TL. Both are great cars - the TL happened to be what I wanted more. Ok, I think my thread is derailed.
I've got a Neuros MP3 that can broadcast tunes to my car stereo or any other stereo without any hookups - I don't need no iPod!
DoD, this line just jumps out at me. Is this "how a man like you got to be a man like you?" Great car!
I'm so jealous. I hate not having decent wheels. I would take either one in a New York minute. What were you talking about??
BigE's probably out there choking on smoke and smog in LA. He frequents CC daily in stealth mode. Maybe he will make a guest appearance/post. Tough choice between a G35 & TL. I haven't looked at the acura's lately.. but the new TL's are sweeet looking. Looks like the TSX is replacing the old TL's and the new TL was made to compete with G35, BMW & A4. Did they do away with the Type S TL's ?
Actually, the TSX is the car that will compete with the 3-Series, A4, C-Class, IS, etc...It's cheaper, but it is more similar to this level than the new TL. The new TL had a price hike, and will probably actually compete more with the higher end 3-series', G35, higher end C-Class's, ES, etc... And, yes, there is only one TL engine now. Sorry about the derailment, DOD.
Sure... for some more money... it's built into mine. As is ogg vorbis support, WMA support, the ability to identify songs that are playing on the radio by recording snippets of them, expand storage simply by replacing a backpack, etc. Did the iPod ever get FM radio built into it? Or do you still have to buy a separate module? But I know... the ipod looks cool. Hey, you save some nickels here and some dimes there and you can afford to do stupid stuff. Spend $34-$37k on a new car, but wondering whether or not to spend $10/month. Yes, I'm odd that way... By the way, thanks for the comments to everyone about the XM Radio. And yes, the TL is one sweet vehicle and I'm in love with it already. The sound system with the DVD audio 5.1 surround is incredible. I just need to figure out a way to add a bit more "thump"... The silliest-but-coolest part of it is the voice commands that the car can interpret. Like turning the stereo on, changing stations, turning on the A/C, raising/lowering the temperatures, etc. The car has its shortcomings, but the ride and the overall quality far outweighed them for me....
