We all heard about a few of the exceptions. A couple of the Bushes, I think John McCain etc., but on the whole Republicans stuck with their guy.

In Congress their alleged big brain guys like Paul Ryan look almost giddy with excitement as they talk of working with Trump to repeal health care, cut or privatize Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, though Trump has at time said he would not. Some of Trump's primary opponents are working for him-- Perry and Carson and others like Romney, Gingrich and others were eager to do so also.

Hillary wasted practically a whole month talking about Trump claiming he grabbed women by the p***y and thought that this and similar remarks might allow her to at least get well educated suburban GOP women to vote for her -- or maybe even a few of their husbands. Very few did.

It is sad, but this is the Republican Party as it actually is now.

Why? Simple. Because they know he will be nothing more than a rubber stamper for the GOP establishment running the House and Senate.

They are smart enough to know he's too stupid to have opinions on nuanced policy so he'll just parrot whatever people like Paul Ryan states.

The reason why they are so happy about it is because they know that Trump is no ideologue and he has really no agenda meaning that the GOP gets to do pretty much whatever they want to do and Trump will call it his own.

Social conservatives backed him because they're still in shock about gay marriage and DADT repeal; and had to get the most popular person out there. Fiscal conservatives probably trust him because he's rich.

Why are we rehashing this topic for the 100th time? Its like the Left wakes up everyday, has a case of amnesia and forgets who Trump ran against.

With Pence Trump got himself some insurance from the Dems trying to impeach him. However, folks like Rubio, Cruz might not want to see Pence run in 2020 as the incumbent. I guess it all gets down to what the Koch Bros and Adelman want. Trump has put in 5 or 6 Goldman guys in his government and one of this appointments is a congressman Pompeo also from Wichita where Koch started who got his start as with Koch money so he might have that covered, too.

Doesn't matter who ran. GOP will vote GOP. This thread is specifically about educated Republican.

    Independent is a different story.

I don't know that they do. I know several of my Republican family members and friends not only didn't vote for Trump they voted for Hillary. I was talking with my brother who kind of feels sad about it all.

He said that he's been conservative all of his life, and supported primarily Republicans all of his life. But now it seems like many conservatives and Republicans would think of him as a liberal because he believes in data and facts and therefore global warming. He believes in higher education. He voted for Kasich in the primary, and we know well Kasich didn't do.

I'm speaking in generality and I also believe that many moderate Republican (as well as liberal) identify themselves as independent. You can see the trend over the years. Less and less identify with either party and more with being independent.

I think, for the most part, they support the Republican Party platform, not Trump. Given how they believe the country should be governed, that is rational (at least arguably so).

Clinton lost with those voters in spite of Trump, not because of him.

If factory job loss is due to automation, then why are companies like Carrier trying to move production to Mexico?

The answer is for less expensive labor and less regulation.

Supply and demand is the foundation of economic analysis, yet nearly every single one of Trump's objectors has thrown these principles out the door when debating against his economic policy. Also, Trump is condemned for merely wanting to renegotiate trade deals whereas Bernie Sanders was commended for literally wanting to tear up every major trade deal that the US has.

Perhaps it's his economic rhetoric that aligns closer to the founding principles of economics that appeals to me.

I'm educated and an immigrant. Despite all the crap he said about women, there's an easy answer for my support - his contract with America. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/contract/

If you haven't read it, do so. He should be judged by whether he fulfills those promises, not by the media or protestors.

If he gets half of that done, he will be the greatest post-war president period. Personally I'd be a single issue voter just for ending offshoring, as high tech companies are selling out America by exporting many of our best paying tech jobs.

The US pulled out of TPP today. For a lot of people, just that is enough
