when yao's going be an mvp candidate? i say 3 years from now when he helps the rockets becomes a perennial championship contender. he still has to improve his offense and defense. but more importantly he has to realize THE MAN, the go-to guy of the team, who must touch the ball down the stress, like kg did last year. you get put up big numbers and not win the MVP. i.e. i think kg's numbers were better than duncan the last two years.
I think you guys are pushing Yao too far, let the guy live his life and stop rushing the big man. Come on, I mean hes only 23 years old with 1 year under his belt. Hes gonna be real good but not that soon.
Hmm, will Yao-Duncan be the next Olajuwan-Robinson Rockets-Spurs rivalry? As for MVP, I say this year he'll get a few votes, next year he'll be top 5 in voting, and the next year he'll win it. Mark my words.
Thinking more and more about it, it just didn't hit me till Worrell pointed out, Yao could very well lead the league in free throw percentage,...AND field-goal percentage...This ain't no joke!!! He works hard, his strides on getting better is advanced,...At the now 310 pounds, and 7' 6", he still can run the floor like smaller, agile centers... He hasn't even started his second season and he is already near impossible to stop...He is stronger,...His passing cannot be overlooked....Like I said ,....sCaRy!!!
I have no doubts that Yao WILL win the MVP someday, but not that soon. Give him time, no one can become an MVP with just one year. Not even Hakeem was MVP caliber his second year.
And to think that Mobley once said he doesn't want Yao here..but would rather trade the pick to LA Clippers and have his good buddy Lamar Odom traded in exchange. Thank goodness Mobley isn't our GM. By the way, when was the last time a role player made such a huge statement on what direction the team should go? Makes you think once again about what kind of handle Rudy had on his players.
The thing is, those have always been strong points of his game: shooting at a high percentage. I don't remember the numbers that were being thrown at me before the draft, but they were sick and insanely high for a %, especially for a big man... To be an MVP, though, you have to have more than stats, like someone pointed out. I thought KG should have gotten MVP last year, but Duncan showed why he is the true MVP by almost single-handedly leading his team to the title. All I'm saying is that Yao is about 3-5 years away from reaching that level of greatness. I don't want him winning the MVP the same way he won the starting C all-star position; I want him to earn it and deserve it.
In 3 or 4 Years he will be MVP material given that he keeps on improving his numbers. More importantly, Yao needs to get deep into the playoffs before I begin talking MVP and Yao in the same sentence.
I agree vehemently, I just see him putting himself in a position with the improvement to get to the MVP-caliber of play as soon as this season... It's not just the spectacular percentage shooting... As far as improvements...In my opinion, #1) I have seen him get in better positioning... #2) He seems more willing to use his size... #3) He doesn't seem as prone to mistakes... I cite these as improvements and when you add that to his very good passing, team oriented nature, and already customary defense; It becomes evident A top 2 Center is only getting better!... The MVP will be right around the corner perhaps this year, and it will be well-deserved if it does happen. (But of course, he still has to earn it)
Easy there. A better question would be "what comes first the MVP or burnout for Yao given his 365 days/year playing schedule". I sure hope Yao stops this grueling schedule wants the Olympics are over next off season.
Yao's MVP status will tie with the Rocket performance. If we are the champion this year, sure, Yao or Steve will be the MVP because people will credit the success to one of them. If we do not make the playoff, no matter how well Yao plays, he will not earn even the ROY.
Championship will have nothing to do with MVP as the voting is done before the playoffs begin. If Yao puts up big numbers and the rox finish top 4 in the west, I can see him winning it.
This year£¿ NO! Yao is too tired, I don't think he can always keep enough energy through the whole season. Maybe he will be the MVP only if he devote himself to NBA not other games.
