When we shoot like we did tonight against Memphis we need to try Kyle. Break glass if emergency 3pt water shooter. I hated letting Troy Daniels go for the same reason. Got to use these guys when necessary to see if they're on.
i wonder if wiltjer could do better than 1-8 on 3's and zero rebounds. he surely can't be any worse on D than ryno
I am starting to think Wit can do what ryno does with no problem while keeping chemistry and production of given the time.
When Ryan Anderson can't hit 3's, he's not very good out there. I would think that Wiltjer would be better in those situations.
Meh... its all about what Harden does with what the defense gives him. If Ryno isn't hitting, but the defense is still guarding him like a threat, he's still effective as hell at doing his job if Harden is able to break down the defense and do what he does. What killed the Rockets last night wasn't Ryno's shooting, it was the fact that the passing lanes were severely disrupted by Memphis' excellent defense, and Harden couldn't make good passes either to the roller or to the corners. Its also important to note that Ryno's position on the court (deep wing) is the most difficult place on the three point line to make shots, but the Rockets put him there on purpose because of his ability to take pressure off of James in P&R coverage. ........ Onto Wiltjer... I think he can duplicate what Ryno does to a certain extent on the wings. However he doesn't have the seldom used post game, and the little stop and pop game that defenses know that Anderson has. Maybe he does, or can do more but we just don't know yet, but we will see. I expect that D'Antoni might actually insert Wiltjer into the lineup seeing as though Dekker will be out for the next game which will be interesting to see him with the regular rotation guys. Lets keep in mind though there is a big difference between a guy who hits threes in garbage time vs someone who can do it consistently over a season and devastate teams at times like Ryan Anderson has been capable of over the course of his career even though he does have off nights. The respect factor is a big reason why stretch 4's are either a gift from heaven or kind of pointless & you might as well play someone who can do other things like rebound, and play good defense. The respect factor is what opens up your entire offense when team gameplan to stop you.
I used to think Wiltjer can't be that much worse than Anderson, but then I watched the games and realized Anderson is not a terrible defender. Wiltjer is probably a terrible terrible defender at this point in his development. Next season tho we'll see. Wiltjer needs to focus on improving his athleticism, his rebounding fundamentals and defense. He can be a very solid player in the future. It's always good to work on your game from the place of already having one elite skill.
