breaking news on 2 Dec 2016 Indeed, China was infuriated and , through its Foreign Minister said, in doing so, “they are lifting a rock only to drop it on their feet,.” As recently as Sunday, 8 Jan 2017, China warned that it would take revenge for any U.S. cessation of the One China policy, though it did not clarify what that revenge would entail. https://www.yahoo.com/news/ted-cruz-tex ... 49460.html on Sunday, 9 Jan 2017, Texas Governor Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz met w Taiwanese President Tsai Cruz and President Tsai reportedly discussed “arms sales, diplomatic exchanges and economic relations, while Abbott’s conversation was more focused on agriculture and gas trade. But the Texas Gov also presented a offensive gift, a clock, to the Taiwanese President. In Mandarin-speaking Taiwan, as well as in China, the phrase “give a clock” sounds like “attend a funeral,” and so giving a clock is, per Yahoo Foreign Policy Asia editor James Palmer, “basically the Taiwanese equivalent of ‘Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes.’” It is highly taboo. Why did Team Trump chicken out of a face-to-face meeting w the Taiwanese President ? To the extent that Taiwan/ US relations is a Federal matter, why is Abbott there, certainly not for his cultural sensitivity ?
Trump himself appeared to have ruled out meeting Tsai this trip, saying it is “a little bit inappropriate” to meet anybody until he takes office January 20. http://www.breitbart.com/news/us-senator-ted-cruz-meets-with-president-of-taiwan/
"he is using the carrots, but he is ready with a baseball bat whenever its needed" ^√ Trump's supporters, use the argument above
that is just BS this is the same Trump who deems it appropriate to place a phone call to Tsai; the cake has been baked. but Team Trump is too chicken to own it, just like the border wall issue
What's the problem with him taking a call and not meeting her until he takes office? Looks like a logical leap.
I never took Trump to be war hungry. Antogonistic, yes. It's too soon to judge. If I were a rival state, I'd avoid Trump's provocations, and trap him in a statement that forces him to act or lose face. It's almost textbook, and I'd hope our president is smarter than that.
au contrare i want to point out another eg of Trump not able to walk his "supposed" tough talk in addition to not able to come out w a "supposedly" better plan to replace the ACA, his team is now back-pedaling on the border wall issue the Taiwan/China dynamics
