that's fine mediocre/ability to be a good role player is all that he is and was. All that extra stuff people tried to build him up to be was just delusional.

That is a trademark Mickey M. voice for you, Sir.

His bulk however could stomp on any bums in the Portland area.

Of course he is a role player, but if you understand the game then you know that the reason we are GOOD is because of versatility and role players adding that.

When teams have an athletic Wing to cover Harden and guard the 3pt line it would help to have a low post option - as a way to break Harden free.

When teams have a massive Center like Gobert clogging up the lane it would be nice to have a Center that can knock down 3s and force him to come out of the paint.

It is that I am taking a BIG PICTURE look at the whole here, and DMo moves the HELL out of that needle - with a big caveat......IF HEALTHY.

And if he is healthy, and by all accounts of us letting him play last year, he is...then we just let a VALUABLE piece walk out the door for nothing......and that would be what gets GMs fired - Morey should be way above ego and put the good of the team ahead of himself (which I believe he always does), but this story is disconcerting to any knowledgeable Rockets fan, who doesn't give two craps for how much players make but what makes the ROSTER better.

Does Bobby Brown make the team better than having DMo? Exactly !!!!

Wow, I didn't know he told Blank that he failed his physical. That changes everything I thought. Why was he so stupid? Stupid not in telling Blank about it. He probably thought that this would be open info anyway. Stupid in saying it now that he didn't know why he was renounced when he clearly had said that he knew.

The amount of if's in your posts is all we need to know about him at this point. Dmo isn't turning into a player that moves the needle and definitely not "the HELL out of that needle". Rockets have been completely fine without him. There won't be any regrets from Houston's POV, only his fan only club that are upset he's gone and didn't command what they wanted to believe he would

Wait, you guys honestly think DMo failed his physical in Houston? I mean HONESTLY? While passing in Brooklyn and New Orleans?

That is hogwash, he played last year at the end and in the playoffs - for whatever reason, Morey and the Org decided they wanted out - could be future injury worries, but that is silly because he was only guaranteed this year....unless all they wanted him for was to trade him - which is probably why he wanted out anyway as he knew that.

The Rockets have been very good, but are holding on without Capela and hoping Nene can hold up - DMo at the WORST gives a valuable backup piece to help us sustain injuries.

This team will not win a chip as assembled, will need at least someone else to be in the paint.

oh forgot Rockets would definitely win a chip if we had Dmo. How can we forget. A $600K player moves the HELL out of the needle

I will simplify it for you......does he make the Roster better than Bobby Brown?

    Yes - keep him
    No - let him go

Out of curiosity - was Bobby Brown given a real shot?

Did not see much of him, not that he is a major contributor any way.

Here's another simple question. Does keeping a malcontent with a potential back problem who could mess up team chemistry make more sense than a useless Bobby brown?

Yes - make him RFA at no cost to team
No - cut him and say goodbye forever

agreed. I felt like he could've helped the team. Obviously it sounds like he has some personal issues/disagreements with Morey. So is life. But DMO>Brown when your starting center is out 6 weeks is a no brainer. People on here like to act like DMO was a total scrub but when healthy, and yeah thats a big if, he had some good stretches and offered the rockets a post player look who could stretch the floor. All the good riddance people on here are just salty.

They are short sighted, and grudge holding over something that is simply business.

What I remember is that we got killed in the Jazz game 2 seasons ago, when D12 was out due to the injury, DMo and Dorsey played the C for us. Again, he is not a reliable outside thread as Ryno is (through out his career, only 1 season over 30% from the 3).
Yes, DMo got some really good low post move. But isn't it what Nene can do also? DMo might be a slightly better ISO option in the low post than Nene, but when play with James, Nene might even be a better pick&roll option than DMo. Therefore if Nene is healthy, DMo don't worth 7m plus for this team in my opinion. (but he is willing to accept the Vet min, it would be a done deal already :))
I think the PT could also be one of reason DMo don't want to accept the option that play for Rockets for 1 season at QO or short term offer. Pretty sure he knows that, on the current Rockets team, he won't have enough PT and privilege to produce the same type of number before his injury. It will ruin his chance to get a big check in the following seasons.

    Another factor:

    DMo > 7m
    Bobby Brown < 1m

although i agree that its right to question why /how dmo failed his physical, i think its a fallacy to claim that it means that morey/org didnt want him. matter of fact i know that morey was really wanting to bring dmo back during the dmo/we have our rights holdout period.

once again with the big if's. and you act like Dmo is some crucial factor in the future of the rockets organization. Nobody significant in the league is looking at Dmo for someone that doesn't have an established rep or much credibility for that matter. Salty? nah not really because I'm not a player fan in this case like a few other ones we know around here. The Rockets are used to playing without him for a reason. Nothing says they miss them even to this point. no matter what happens I won't look back and say wish we still had Dmo at the end of the day because he is who he is. It's done with now.

    I originally didn't, but now I do.

I mean, I didn't even know ESPN Houston reported DMo told Blank that he failed the physical.
    Here:
    https://www.facebook.com/975Houston/posts/1206838436076176:0

But even before reading that, I have changed my mind based upon what he signed for. You make it sound like passing a physical is something like in the Army, where you must cut people in a consistent manner. Obviously, each team can measure value differently. At the minimum, NOLA could definitely have reason to sign vs Houston. And the Nets must spend $9m somewhere, because they are $9m below the NBA's minimum salary cap. So again, they could have different motivations....making it a "why not" scenario just like NOLA at the minimum salary.

I totally can see NOLA and BKN signing for what they did in their scenario vs Les/Morey. Yeah, I agree, that was such a sweet deal for cap flexibility that you're "only" risking $8.3m to have a look. But for all we know no matter what any $8m starting year deal looked like, Les/Morey might have already agreed that they would only signed if they liked the physical. So it remains speculation for sure, but I can no longer rule it out, like you are. Too many things are starting to add it to the simplest scenario ... Morey/Les just cut bait on physical.

I also wonder if DMo has such a bad taste in his mouth regarding Detroit that he doesn't interview well with Doctors during physicals anymore. If you are difficult or short with doctors asking you questions like "do you ever feel stiffness when waking up", they are going to think you are withholding something.

Not a factor at all, if the franchise is about winning, neither puts them into luxury tax.

And then Blank said DMo told him it had nothing to do with anything medical - this is entirely the point that DMo is pissed...he is saying they are/were playing games.

I don't believe he failed Detroit or Houston's physical - I mean Houston had him PLAYING last year - and nothing has gone on since then other than he has been working out.....so.....it looks to me like the Rockets had just decided they had enough and moved on.....either as a way to screw him out of going to New Jersey (probably why he is pissed off at Morey), or as a future lesson to other RFA's about hard-line business.

Yes it is my OPINION (unconfirmed) that the Rockets saw something on his physical (that Brooklyn didn't see or didn't care about) that made them back out of the deal. I also believe that they went to the league to confirm that they could get out of the deal this way, and tried to do D-Mo a favor by releasing him back into free agency without publicizing that they are failing his physical and voiding the contractual agreement. The fact that you didn't see any bad mouthing of Houston by BJ or D-Mo afterwards tells you that they were on the same page about keeping this one close to the chest.

I have to believe that D-Mo isn't dumb enough to walk away from 7 million + guaranteed just because of sour grapes. He had to know that there obviously wasn't another guaranteed deal out there he could get since he couldn't get one elsewhere to begin with.

And as for NOLA passing D-Mo.... please. You know and I know that when they signed D-Mo, BJ, and NOLA made sure that the deal was they couldn't fail him. For a 600K deal... thats a damn guarantee. They aren't failing anyone they can get at that bargain, and if D-Mo was healthy or was passing every physical with flying colors, WE ALL KNOW he would be getting offers better than 600K a year.

Its not confirmed, but its highly likely that he's getting 600K this year because his back is F-ed... please swallow that VERY LIKELY possibility DD. No way its not highly likely.

(Hope Im wrong of course, but all the signs point in that direction guys)

Your last sentence is making it out to seem as though D-Mo could be the difference between championship and no championship. The Rockets already are HIGH Underdogs even if they do continue to win at the pace they are now.

Closest comp would probably by the 2011 Dallas Mavs who won with a single superstar, and a mash up of great role players who fit around Dirk, and had great chemistry & coaching. With the role D-Mo would have, that's like saying the Mavericks only won the title because of the contributions of Brendan Haywood, or Deshaun Stevenson. While they surely helped, I think its a massive insult to Morey & D'Antoni when you think that whatever production D-Mo would or wouldn't give you couldn't get supplemented in other ways, or Morey cannot find someone who would be able to handle whatever role D-Mo would have been here to handle. Keep in mind that we haven't even seen Kyle Witljer or Nanu yet because they haven't been needed because of the stellar play from guys like Harrell and Dekker. Guys that are playing better mostly because of increased PT due to guys like D-Mo and Jones NOT being here to take up the minutes they need to improve the big spot & the 4 spot.

I like you DD but I can't help but feel like you are letting your overwhelming fandom for D-Mo cloud your judgement of the situation, and its kind of insulting to D'Antoni and Morey that you assume they can't do what they have proven they can do, and in D'Antoni's case what he is proving now what he can do with whats available.
