For starters, I think this thread deserves a poll.

I have to agree with those who appreciate Bill and Calvin. These two definitely have a good chemistry together. A few years back I traveled through 36 states during an 18 month sales trip. I have to tell you that most of the games I saw other than nationally televised games really were really aweful.

Are YOU serious? Bill is great...full of personality and class! Calvin can be annoying (especially when he is tooting his own horn) but he is very knowledgable and funny. They are the best in the league.

Possum.... (nawhhh, I'll let you make it)

I'm the only person in the world who likes Bill on both Rockets and Astros games.

You cannot compare TV Guys to RADIO GUYS. Gene-O will give you play-by-play because he has to. Just imagine Gene calling the TV game and you saying "But, Gene, I saw that..." everytime.

You are comparing apples to oranges.

This is the reason you like Gene-O on the radio, because the game is alive and kicking you right in the face with the "doopsie-doodles-it-in" sayings.

Calvin and Bill are good because, as posters here put it, "they compliment each other" and "it's like watching a game with a friend". It only works if you're a homer or a fan like me.

I can remember how NBC guys have to be so neutral, like Bob Costas during the 94 playoffs... that s*ck*d*ss.

I don't want to trade Bill and Calvin. How about we trade Cynthia Stooper?

The guys are good because they don't have to worry about what they say. Too many commentators are worried that if they criticize what's going on, they will be blocked from further interviews. These guys have nothing to worry about.

Remember when Les bought the team and tried to fire Calvin (and then turbo) ? It brought a hailstorm of complaints, and he was forced to un-fire both.

It also helps that these guys have been doing the games together forever. And they both have strong ties to the rockets. Too many of these guys just look at things as a paycheck. At least these guys look at the whole gig as fun. And no matter how bad you may dislike them, you can never say that they don't have fun calling a game...

The ONLY way to watch a game in my opinion is with the tv volume down and Gene Peterson up on the radio

backing it in - backing it in -turning - faking - shake and bake - 10 foot rainbow - TWO AND A FOUL!!!!!!!!!

Anyone (stupid) who thinks that Bill and Calvin don't work well together can simply watch Bill broadcast an Astros game. He's not bad at all, but just a regular commentator. With Calvin he's like your buddy, because they're buddies.

Calvin does get up to some antics, but never when the game is tense. He comes across as a huge basketball fan who's loyal to the Rockets, and brings spot-on insight into what the coaches are talking about, what should be happening, etc.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I can't stan Calvin. Sure he knows the game, but his antics are just flat out annoying.

I like Bill and Calvin, but someone *FOR THE LOVE OF GOD* please tell Bill that Steve Francis was NOT the first pick in the draft. Two games in a row he's done that.
