    Gunwanspurs:

I wanted the Spurs to win, especially over Los Angeles.

But lets be honest. The Spurs barely got by a team with an injured Rick Fox, an injured Devean Jorge and a pretty weak laker team compared to the last few years.

To call Francis anything but a stud is ignorance. The list of players who on the last two years Rockets Squad's probably wouldn't have made the playoffs either:

    Tracy McGrady
    Koby Bryant
    Vince Carter
    Allen Iverson

I don't think interchanging any of these players for Steve would've made us THAT much better.

It takes a dominating big man in the west to win. Ray Allen is starting to realize that difference between the east and the west.

Simply stated: The West is Stacked. I look forward to Yao doing to Duncan what Hakeem used to do to The Mermaid.

Yeah, you won a two titles in our transition from one era to the next, but we're going to be rolling over the Spurs soon because no one on the Spurs can guard Francis or Yao.

    thats just flat-out wrong! :(

we, as fans of a classy team/organization should be able to act better than that(except to the Jazz:D), especially to a Texas team.

we dont have to like them, but to wish injury to a guy that has done nothing except tryin to be the best player he can be is just wrong.

and the most hated team in Houston is the Jazz...bar none.

Yeah, and Iverson is no Francis either.

With the exception of his rookie year(in which he was not "the man" at first until both hakeem and CB went down), every healthy year SF has been the number one option (and yes he was that last year too) he has lead us a few games short of the playoffs in a stacked western conference. It's not that much of a leap of faith to think he wouldn't have lead us in there soon.

And Iverson's team wouldn't have made the playoffs in the west either.

With Hedo and Ginobli on ther, it's going to be a very good match up with our 2 and 3. Bottom line we do have a lot of inside threat if Yao and Boki will attack the rim although we already know that our guards will be all over.

Please show the Spurs some respect. As far as someone here mentioned no one could guard SF. Well, SF CANT guard anyone in the league, including Tony Parker.

1999 and 2003 Spurs championship teams are the two worst NBA champions in the history of the NBA, period. It will take a lot of injuries to opposing teams for the Spurs to get to the finals this year with a better team than they had last year.

besides, the spers get an asterisk for their first championship because it was a short season!! :D

so in reality, it's like one and a half championships... :p

spers will get no respect by me anytime for anything!!

They only beat the Mavs cause Nowitzski was hurt. Lucky Basterds. It wont happen again this season for sure. Spurs probably wont ever win a Championship again.

I hate the spurms also, they were a good team LAST year, but this is a new year. See if they can be a true champ and repeat, if not, screw 'em.

I don't know, being an old-timer (that means going back to the 1980s Rockets), I can't think of any team that comes close to fear/hatred than the Seattle Sonics. I mean, the Jazz knocked us out 2 years in a row, but because we beat them badly in 1994 and produced one of our greatest comebacks ever in the first round in 1995, I always had the feeling that we had the Jazz' number.

Now, look at the Sonics. Knocked us out of the playoffs more than any other team (5 times). Dont' know the exact totals, but they have a much better head-to-head record against us (and if I'm not mistaken, they swept us in the regular season series both years we won the championship). They officially ended our championship run in 1996 (with a sweep, no less), and even though we beat them in 1997, it took us 7 games.

No, the Seattle Supersonics will always be the Yankees to our Red Sox, the Redskins to our Cowboys, and the Lakers to our Kings.

Whatever that analogy means. You get my points. The Sonics are Satan! :D

I want to stress that I am not here to express my hatred for the Spurs. I simply was not impressed by either of their championship teams. If I was writing the Spurs place in history, I would label them a very opportunistic team that won two titles in two transition years for the NBA (1999 was the first year played without the Michael Jordan Bulls and in 2003, the Lakers were only a shadow of the championhip caliber team that won the past 3 championships). In 1999 and 2003 I really did not see a team in the NBA that stood out above the rest as the best team in the league. Now Tim Duncan has been among the league's most consistent, productive players the last few years so it is hard to criticize his play. During the regular season, Duncan is the best player in the league. However, in the playoffs he too often does not take charge of the leadership role and demand the ball from his teammates. I can't count how many times I've watched the Spurs in the playoffs in recent years in the 3rd and 4th quarters when the Spurs need a bucket and there's Tim standing 15 feet away from the basket allowing Parker/Ginobili/Elie, etc. take the big shots in crunch time. He definitely improved in that area last playoff season, but his hesitancy to take charge was still there. The day Tim Duncan becomes that Jordan, Bird, Magic, Olajuwon leader is the day I consider the Spurs a legit champion. I just haven't seen that day yet and if I can add my 2 cents, it's probably a reflection of the Spurs coaching staff and organization in general which portrays the same "hey we're a bunch of really great, nice people" that the Longhorns football team portrays. That attitude seems to be a formula for disaster at crunch time in any sport.

My house will be full of Spurts fans tonight (New Braunfels), When we (THe Rockets) dominate, I will hear, Well, Tony Parkers out, Well, Garcia is out, Sh*t, it's just PreSeason-It don't count. I agree with some that the Spurts are Duncan and scrubs (good scrubs, though), and am looking forward to my first Game this Season (that I will be able to watch on TV).
When Yao scores at will in the Paint I will point to my Picture of Hakeem dominating the MVP-Robinson (Class Guy, though). Sad thing is that when the Spurts Lose this Game, Their feeble Fans will have more excuses than my X Girlfriend with My Credit Cards.

The truth is that the most hated team in Houston is the Lakers. Most Houstonians would just as soon the Spurs win if Houston can't win. Tim Duncan is a total class act, a dominating force, and a gentleman. I root for San Antonio every game that they ain't playing the Rockets. I want to see them dominate LA and Shaq. Because Tim Duncan is everything that Shaq is not.

Yao Ming and Tim Duncan, the 2 most intelligent, gifted, skilled, humble, cordial, friendly, super duper star TEAM PLAYERS in the NBA.

    Go Rockets!

    Go Spurs!

    Texas PROUD!
