Of course Williams $5M can come off the books after this year. Add that to the $7M from the Glen Rice trade. I wonder if a trade like this allows us to actually use the exception to bring in a quality player (who would compliment Yao and Steve better than Mobley) without taking too much of a luxury cap hit. Of course we would probably have to give up something else (picks?)to get that quality player . Also, I wonder if the other players involved in these trades... Amechi, Battie, and the player to be named later would coincide with cap room after next season? Anyone want to run the numbers and comment? Side note, now these jokers are talking about Dierker to the Sox. Will it ever end
I hope to God that this doesn't happen. It's a horrible trade for Houston.Cuttino has his problems but he is the 3rd best player on the team. He will be badly missed if this happens.Battie is too small to be a physical PF,Eric Williams takes too many shots to be a effective SF.
Think about it this way. Dallas just traded a wasted lump of flesh (LaFrentz), Jeri Welsh (there version of Bostjan Nachbar), and Chris Mills (salery cap fodder) for a three time all star small forward that can pass and rebound. Hmmmm. We are going to trade Cat (better than anything Dallas gave up by a long shot and entering his prime), Bostjan Nachbar (our version of Jeri Welsh) and Eddie Griffin (a young full of potential power forward or salery cap fodder) for two players that do nothing to improve our team. Hmmmmm. If this is true then CD just gave up a lot more than Mark Cuban and got back a whole hell of a lot less!!! Thanks CD. How does it feel to take it up the ass in two straight trades that?
Actually I was thinking about this after Grady Little did his thing. Dierk would fit right into that Bill James stuff they're pushin over there.
Interesting tidbit. I looked on Rockets.com and Eddie Griffin items have been removed. For instance, he had a celebriduck, now that on that date the giveaway is a Jim Jackson celbriduck. Cuttino items have not been removed. Well, I thought it was interesting.
Griffin is suspended indefinetly from the team. You can't really have a Eddie Griffin celebriduck if he is not going to be at the arena due to disciplinary problems.
I do not understand why so many people dislike this trade. As for any trade, we look at the best players in the trade: Boston's Battie and Rox's Cat. Statistically Cat is better. He is a great one on one player, but not a side kick of SF and Yao. At 6'4 he is too short to play the SG position and he is lack of the skill to play PG. So Cat is basically a one dimention player. Battie is 6'11 and can play both PF and C positions. He seems a good fit to play the back-up for Cato and Yao. A combination at C and PF of Yao, Cato, Battie and MoT sounds good to me. Griffin may have some problems that we are not aware of. The issues could be serious. We all saw him standing around the three point line and shot those lazy three pointers. That is not the Rox needed from their starting PF. So on and off the court, Griffin has not shown that he is a guy that will help the Rox. One thing I have believed was that if the Rox had kept Kenny Thomas you would have beaten out the Suns to be in the playoffs last season. Eric Williams is also a two position player: SF and SG. Yes, he is 31. But he is in his prime and has only this season on the contract. He is 6'8 (two inches taller than JJ) and good defender. He could earn his money by playing next to SF and Yao. My only objection to this trade is te inclusion of Nachbar. Nachbar seemed just starting to feel the NBA games and started to hit his shots. This is usually a sign of improvement. If he imprves at the current preseason pace, you have got your starter at the SF position. No need to include Nachbar since Rox has a trade exception.
has CD seen Battie and Williams play, they have less offensive range than Cato, how does this fit with the build a team around Steve and Yao philosophy.
It won't happen. I'm sure everyone realizes Cuttino Mobley has a higher value than just Erik Williams. Rumors are rumors, it'll take more than that to trade away our #3 scorer
When Rudy was here: Rockets make a questionable pick or trade - Rudy's fault. Now that Gundy is here: Rockets make a questionable pick or trade - CD's fault.
When in the hell did 6'4" become to small to play shooting guard? Vernon Maxwell was 6'4" and a hell of a defender. Cat is not too short.
I know it's just a rumor but Rockets managment is killing me!! I can't believe CD and Les even thought about this deal, let alone give up a 9M last year contract for some piece of crap and a 6.5M exemption (which we better f*#k'n use). Battie and Williams? What the hell is going on?
Well it was pretty clear RudyT had a huge influence in personnel decisions. If JVG has that same kind of influence already, which I kind of doubt but I guess anything is possible, then he'll definitely get his share of blame especially if this trade as currently rumored goes down.
trading Glen Rice for that exception freed up the money for the rockets to sign Jim Jackson, so i think it was well worth it. I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in the rumor yet. The rockets would be giving up way to much with little in return. I honestly don't see how this is beneficial one bit.
