Why do you need an extra word for friends of the Muslim?

The last shitty act of the worst foreign affairs president in American history. On his way out Obama shows his true colors as an Isreal hater. How does it feel to be lied to again democrats? Everything Bibi said about Obama confirmed in one refusal to vote. It shows how out of touch the Democrats are with the world that they think a call to Taiwan's new president is a big deal and this is perfectly fine. This is disgusting and awful.

Screw Israel. They think they can do anything they want without being questioned. They treat the Palenstinians like South Africa treated blacks during Aparthied.

That territory never belonged to them. They are stealing land from impoverished people and it was something history will not remember kindly. It also is a key sore point between the Muslim world and the U.S.

What Obama did (or didn't do) was justice. Finally being fair and I am proud as an American that we finally stood up to Israel's settlement building. Long overdue.

I know right. Like settling their own land . Whata bunch of jerks....

I would argue Israel has been too passive with the Palestinians. No country has ever dealt with rockets flying in at their women and children daily for almost a decade. The correct response is a much greater display of force.

International community disagree with Israel about the land. It's amazing how much fight over a piece of land, but whatever. To me, it's not this and or that land. It's what is the solution. The US and UN has a policy of a 2 state solution forever now and Israel publicly said they agree to that. What the UN and Obama did is to support the 2 state solution.

Perhaps you think there shouldn't be a 2 state solution and all the land should belong to Israel. I see two possible conclusion to that - continue what has gone on over there forever, or a complete suppression of the other population.

Why abstain? Why not vote one way or the other.

This is what it's hard for me to understand.
You say they are 'stealing land that don't belong to them'.
Are you referring to the 67' borders?
I agree that if Israel is not stopping the building behind the 67' borders the UN and the US should hold them responsible before the 2 state solution would not be possible. And I agree that this is what the current Israeli government is trying to do, by avoiding peace process and continue to build they are creating an even bigger obstacle for peace with each passing year. Netanyahu has been in power for too long through fear and intimidation which is understandable when you look at everything that is going on around the country.
But I do understand Obama's intention, and if not start a process, at least can start a discussion towards a resolution.

Deckard, as I stated earlier, there is nothing wrong with his being a Muslim. He just needs to be honest about it.

Actually, that is not really important What is important is that Obama just ended any hope for a two-state solution, which could have brought peace to the Middle East. Now, however, the Israelis might -- and perhaps should -- drive the Palestinians into Syria or the far reaches of the Gaza Strip. That would end the missile strikes and other terroristic acts against Israel. Worse, the Israelis might be tempted to reclaim the Temple of the Mount (Dome of the Rock) to rebuild the Jewish 'Temple. That's how easy it would be to touch off a holy war -- and Obama's U.N. action would be the cause.

Let me get this straight: Jordan and Egypt use the unprovoked attack of Israel in 1948 to capture and occupy territory (i.e. West Bank), and then get their asses kicked in 1967 - and now they're all like "but we need an independent Palestine"? These countries had an opportunity to create free and independent states such as Palestine.

The disingenuous and insincere rhetoric from these nations is appalling. Is Israel to blame for the Egyptian coup? Is Israel to blame for the Syrian civil war? Is Israel to blame for the Iraq ISIS insurgency? Is Israel to blame for Salafi Arabia's bombing of Yemen?

No - to all of those questions. Israel is the only democratic nation in the Middle-East that values anything close to western values. The Syrian "rebels" definition of "freedom" is not the same as those in the west. The fact that these nations had a chance to create a free and independent Palestine but never gave it a moments thought over 20 years, tells me all I need to know about this debate.

The US has always, as a policy, been against building and claiming land outside the '67 borders. No administration has ever backed off on that, and Reagan and Bush the Elder had friction with Shamir over it, back in the day.

Why then, is it in any way controversial that the US upholds that policy in the UN?

You are tying hating Israel to being a Muslim and that's simply false. Sure Obama hates Israel, but that just means he's a liberal. When you suggest that his hatred for Israel is due to him being a Muslim, you don't come off looking very good. If we're honest, Obama is probably agnostic or athiest.

Let's not let the contentious Israeli/Palestinian issue obscure the more befuddling issue of thumbs honestly thinking and stating that Obama is a secret Muslim.

One is a legitimately difficult issue with pros and cons and thousands of years of contention.

The other is pure comedic idiocy parading as a truly held political belief.

    Unbelievable.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.
