Yes. There's a billion people halfway across the world (China) that probably already have itchy ballot fingers. Not to mention the 13k that are on this website that will (should) vote for Yao.

As long as Yao has billions backing him up in China, he'll be fine.

Also, as long as Yao and Francis are both Rockets, Francis should also have billions of people in China voting for him!:D

Yeah but dont forget that even in LA, the asian population is extremely big. Yao helps sell out the arenas in Los Angeles and Sacramento.

Yeah but dont forget that even in LA, the asian population is extremely big. Yao helps sell out the arenas in Los Angeles and Sacramento. On top of that, most asians all over the US will more likely vote for Yao over shaq for now on. More and more asians are getting into the game now...And im extrememly confident that Yao will have better game than shaq this season. Its going to be to hard for Shaq to stand out on the Lakers team with Kobe, Mailman, and Gary Payton.. We'll see....

What about LeBron James? Will he be able to beat out AI or T-Mac?

I think the same thing will probably happen to Lebron James this year. And most likely will end up not being ROY.

LA does not net Yao to sell out the Staples Center.

Anyway Yao will win it again but with a like 20ppg and 10rpg stat, he will not be mocked for getting the starting nod - with that kind of stat line plus great free throw and field goal percentage no one can complain or question you (except for maybe a few detractors).

A little well known facts in allstar voting:

    1. Not all 1.3 billion people have access to the internet. And oly those who have internet can vote in China.

    2. Chinese Americans are the major voting power for Yao. Almost every Chinese in the US voted for Yao.

    3. Other Asians in other Asian countries and other Asian Americans than Chinese voted for Yao as well.

    4. A lot of non-Asian Americans are sick and tired of seeing Shaq

That was sportswriters, wasn't it? I think anyone other than Phx fans realize that if two players have the same numbers, but one was double-teamed and the focus of defenses, the double-teamed one was obviously more valuable. All the same, I hope it is still burning Yao's ass. :D

I'll take all the motivation you can get for Yao.

    AMEN!!!!!!

Even if I wasn't a Rox fan, I would vote for Yao just because I hate Shaq that much! And I know a lot of people that feel the same way.

Remember, early in the season, it was sportswriters and radio/TV announcers who were predicting Yao to be a huge bust. None of those quotes were ever attributed to a coach who actually saw him play firsthand. They could see the potential from the very beginning. It's no surprise that a number of those sportswriters weren't yet willing to eat their earlier words. They could save themselves a little bit of "face" by his not getting ROY. Temporarily.

africa has a population of about 700 million.
    (sigh)
    this is ridiculous

saying yao ming is going to be the starter because of the billion people in china, or only because he is asian is just play childish.

yao only got what? a little over a million votes last season. theres more than a million people in canada...why didnt nash start? england has a population of what? 60-70 million? i dont see ameachi starting....

The title of this thread should be refrased to "will Shaq Food ever be the starting all star center again"

Mark my words due to Yao's international following and his improved playing Shaq will never be the starting center again. This is not to say that Yao is better in any way just that maybe he is more popular, likeable,etc.. internationally.
