This phrasing could be applied in quite a few instances actually. USA-Iraq, Russia-Syria etc.

actually it reminds me of Iranian immigrants who fled to the West blaming Khumieni for their suffering, only to find out after a generation how false it was
thanks for sharing a memo from IranTV, now what's your personal opinion ?

Turkey should probably not be in NATO anymore by this point for multiple reasons.

Turkey is a historic and key corridor ally that's guarantees NATO presence to the ME, Russia and Iran.

Erdogan's growing Islamist influence is undeniably disturbing, as is the erosion of Kemalism among the public, but there is an undeniable energy and dynamism among their youth that shouldn't be abandoned or squandered.

It can swiftly change for the better, as it has for the worse under Erdogan's reign.

Obama said about Trump: words have consequences. Indeed they do. It's a shame Obama never realized that his words twice had consequences:
    1. Talking about a red line.
    2. Caving-in to Russia's "we promise to destroy all of Syria's chemical weapons" agreement.

I'm living on a planet where my government funded and supported "rebels" who invaded a country and are still trying to overthrow a sovereign government. I'm living on a planet where my president, the most powerful man on the planet draws a line in the sand and when the bully steps over it he backs down like a pu$$y.

Why, what planet do you live on?

If taking down a bad guy is a valid reason for creating the humanitarian disaster, death and destruction and near genocide that has happened in Aleppo then why in the hell haven't we attacked North Korea yet?

The middle east has never been a stable place but under Obama it has been hell. You can argue that it isn't his fault but trust me, the people over there blame him and the US.

I don't know about historic, but I forgot they do occupy a key corridor to access to the Middle Easyt from Europe. Such a terrible situation but you are right that their youth is/was a bright spot. It's a terrible shame that more secular movements, largely drive by youth, in Turkey and Iran were crushed by the hardliners. Alas, religion is such a great means of control.

    As an aside:

It should have been NATO preventing the huge influx of Syrians and other ME countries into Europe with aid being provided by the West and humanitarian groups. Refugee camps are completely dismal places, but it would have been better than flooding Europe in my opinion.

With the election of Trump and the rise of nationalism/far right wing policies in the US and Europe, the parallels are scary.

The Russians are rather unpredictable but I think they wait this out.

I don't want the US to be involved in the Syrian war, but I don't think it is appropriate to threaten the Syrian government - especially when you have no intention of backing up such a threat. Words have consequences:

Franz Ferdinand was the casus belli, but Austria-Hungary was trying to gobble up the Balkans as a standing policy goal. See the Bosnian Crisis of 1908-09. Turkey was the "sick man of Europe" and the Hapsburg family identity was in large part their role in driving the Muslim invaders out of Christian Europe.

Franz Ferdinand was an "unhappy coincidence" that let Franz Joseph do what he had been wanting to do.

I don't see the Russians as itching for an excuse to invade and encorporate Turkey into Russia.

We should listen to this guy as he is a descendant of the Ottoman dynasty.

not sure what NATO membership means anymore aside from spying on allies, after the NATO pulled their patriot missile defenese system from Turkey after shooting down Russian's fighter jet

Your opinion article states that's that the two sides couldn't reach agreement over the no fly zone over northern Syria and how Turkey would combat ISIS. Your article states that the Turkish president/prime minister rose to power on anti west platform. I keep hearing about obama's failed policies but I am not hearing solutions or what should have been done.

Like I said, it seems you and conservatives are arguing both sides. We are weak when we try and accommodate Turkey and I assume we would be weak if we simply gave in to his Turkey wanted to handle ISIS in order to forge a stronger alliance.
