Sounds good. I hope we extend James and expect the Rocks to do so.

His contract would end when Harden is 33, which is pretty ideal. I expect Harden to stay at his current level of play until 32 ish.

It's also great this decision will come for him at the end of what seems will be a really nice season in Houston. Hope we get it done. 42 mill per should be hard to turn down.

for those saying it will keep us mediocre, so be it. Rather be having seasons like this for the next 6 years then be like Philly for a decade with no guarantee of us even returning to mediocrity.

We'd just have to hope we can trade, sign or draft players good enough to help Harden win a ring.

Yeah, Harden is worth it. I hope we can get him to sign max ext before his FA (in a few years) , because it would be dangerous to chance it and w/o him this team would be terrible for years.

There's no guarantee on future players after him, and Harden is the real deal that the Rockets need to lock up. With him sticking around it'll be a lot easier to get more pieces (especially w/ how big the cap is). Thank you OKC!!

Will be interesting forsure if he willing to sign a long-term contract. Last year was easy short extension with more money now.

So what is this extention going to look like? The Salary cap is expected at 108M correct? Looks like it will start in the 35-37m range. If the first year is 35M, then the next are 37.8M, 40.6M, 43.4M, 46.2M. That is 203M over 5 years for an average of 40.6M. :D

This is good for the NBA.

Also FWIW the Warriors are kind of boxed in when it comes to making moves.

The smartest thing that the Rockets can do it lock up Harden long term.

    Deadspin has some specifics

This summer, Westbrook could sign a five-year, $219 million contract extension that would begin in the 2018-19 season. He’ll make $28.5 million in 2017-18.

Harden could sign for an additional four years and $171 million starting in 2019 – on top of the $58.7 million owed to him in the next two years of his current contract.

As of now, it seems that Westbrook is more likely to sign that extension this summer. Sources told Yahoo that Harden will probably pass on that option for now, and wait until he’s a little closer to his free agency in 2019, as he assesses the Rockets’ viability. He has that luxury since the discrepancy in contracts he’d be offered looks negligible next to his mammoth $200 million shoe deal.

What can other teams offer Harden in 2019 compared to what we can offer him?

I honestly think Harden deep down inside wants to play in a big market like LAL or NYK. Just my two cents

I wouldn't be to worried about The deadspin article. It may be true but even if it is not a major concern imo.

TBH I'm leaning towards the James inking this new max as soon as he is alllowed. The rockets let Harden do what he wants (as they should) him and Les (money bags) have a great relationship.

If the rockets make it to the wcf and give the Warriors a run for there money along with and MVP this season.

Ohh I fully believe Harden will sign that 171m extension.

That's a lot of money to be on a good team with a lot of youth.

Remember guys none of us thought he would sign that contract extension this summer and he did.

Harden doesn't want to play in LA trust me. His friends and personal trainer have all said it's not going for him there to many distractions. There's a reason he went to Arizona and Miami this offseason and not his hometown.

I think Harden loves houston and wants to be a Rocket for life and go down as the best Rocket alive and have the statue out front of Toyota with the Dream.

Now Morey and MDA need to do there job and keep improving the team. They've done and awesome job so far gotta keep it moving.

This. You can't put more than 5 guys on the court. That's a radical constraint, and it warps every other consideration. Having a top 10 guy among your 5 is such an advantage that almost any cap on individual compensation makes top-10 guys a bargain.
