    There are two interesting story about YAOMING when he played in shanghai DONGFANG SHARKS. (Unfortunately,they are in chinese, I haven't enough time to translate 8() The writer is YAO's teammate(He is in Australia now.
    ). They lived in same dorm room when YAO's 14/5 years old.
    Maybe I should feel sorry for post chinese here . But I do know there are so many friends can read and wirte Chinese in the forum and they will be glad to translate them for every YAO and ROX fans from all over the world.

    The second part talks about the author blocking one of YM's shots in an intrasquad game...

    The author knew he fouled YM during the process, but the coach did not make the call...

    Apparently YM was very pissed and remembered the incident at heart... YM always gave the author a grunt look when they played against each other...

    The author went on and said maybe it was this incident that made YM into a awsome shot-blocker he is right now...

    Almost forgot to insert one little piece to the second part:

    YM gave the author an elbow to the throat during the next practice...

    YM asked him, "Tell me, did you foul me last time?"

    The author responded, "What foul? Let's see if you have enough guts to block my shot."

    That really got YM pissed from there...

    man, that may be the funniest translation on here yet. even topping soup commander and chef and all the others.


    does it seem like there are a lot of these little anecdotes about yao getting pissed at someone and doing something like this? well, not a ton, but every once in a while they get thrown out and it's like damn, dude gets pissed every once in a while and does some mean stuff.

    although i'm thinking being 7'5 helped him become a better shotblocker than getting mad at a teammate.

    1) First Impression

    I joined the Shanghai municipal youth bball team. Yao entered a year before. But I met before when the Youth team came to the Athletes' Academy (some kind of special middle school). At the time, he was only 14-15, but he was already 215cm. I thought how the hell could a guy grow this tall? and with a total baby face, that seemed to always look so serious and never smiled. Don't know why, but my first impression of Yao wasn't all that. Maybe because it looked just too "frightening"? In any case, I never talked to him before joining the team. After joining, I actually lived in the same room, and then I got to know him better. We grew familiar real quick, because we had a common hobby: console games. There weren't any playstations back then, just 8-bit 2-d machines. Since my dad was in Australia, he used to bring (or get his friends to bring) a bunch of newer games back for me. So i had the most cartridges on the team. Yao always borrowed them from me, and we grew close. In truth, Yao is a really pretty good-natured. The reason he looks very serious is because he is so different. I even felt at times he suffers from an inferiority complex, because he was just too tall. He often said that me "If only I were a bit shorter" because when he's walking on the street, people look at him like he was a monster, and are too scared to get too close to him. But really once you know him well, and treat him like an ordinary guy, he's really quite talkative. And he's pretty humorous, cracking jokes all the time, doing some over-the-top gestures, making people laugh. But he's got one "fatal flaw", which i cannot tolerate. His foot smells horrendously. At the time, after each training session, he would take off his shoe once he got back to the room, and then the entire room would be filled with this odor. Just imagine the stench from a size 50 (not sure what this translates to in US measurements) foot! Good heavens! I endured just over a month of it, and then I just couldn't take it anymore. But at the time, I was too embarrassed to tell coach. I told my mom. She then told coach about it, and he transferred me out of Yao's room. His new roommate was called Hu Xiao-Yu (eventually also entered Eastern Basketball. I heard his chronic sinusitis gave him a poor sense of smell.
